#5 Men's Lacrosse Set to Host 2022 Ivy League Tournament; Take on #13 Penn in Friday Semifinal

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The top-seeded and fifth-ranked Brown Bears (10-4, 4-2 Ivy League) welcome a trio of conference foes to College Hill for the 2022 Ivy League Tournament, beginning with a pair of semifinal matchups on Friday (May 6) at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

SETTING THE SCENE
- The second-seeded and eighth-ranked Cornell Big Red (11-3, 4-2 Ivy League) square off against the third-seeded and sixth-ranked Yale Bulldogs (10-3, 4-2 Ivy League) at 6 p.m. in the first semifinal game.
- The Bears take on the fourth-seeded and 13th-ranked Penn Quakers (8-4, 3-3 Ivy League) at 8:30 p.m. Friday in the second semifinal game.
- The Ivy League Championship is scheduled for noon on Sunday (May 8).
- All three Ivy League Tournament games will broadcast on ESPNU with Anish Shroff, Quint Kessinich, and Paul Carcaterra on the call.
- Fans have the option to purchase tickets for the semifinal games on Friday, the Championship game on Sunday, or an all-session pass for both days of lacrosse. Click here to purchase tickets.
- Due to parking constraints around the Center for Lacrosse and Soccer, Brown Athletics will open Lot 88 at Brown Stadium and run a courtesy shuttle between Brown Stadium and Stevenson-Pincince Field on Friday and Sunday.
- Lot 88 will open at 4 p.m. on Friday and at 10 a.m. on Sunday. The shuttle will run from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. tomorrow and from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
- Brown enters the weekend with a 10-4 overall record and 4-2 Ivy League mark. The Bears are winners of five-straight games dating back to the road win over the Quakers (Apr. 9).
- Brown's offense averages 13.71 goals per game to rank third in the Ivy League and tied for 19th in the NCAA.
- Second Team All-Ivy selection Devon McLane leads the Bears in goals (43), assists (22), points (65), shots (120), shots on goal (78), and man-up goals (10). He ranks third in the conference and 16th in the NCAA with 4.64 points per game. He is fifth in the Ivy and tied for 16th in the nation with 3.07 goals per game. He ranks third in the NCAA with 10 man-up goals and is one of three with double-digit EMO tallies.
- Brown possesses one of the most potent man-up offenses in the nation with 23 EMO goals in 46 attempts (.500). The Bears rank second in the conference and sixth in the NCAA.
- Brown's defense leads the Ivy League and ranks 28th in the country with 11.00 goals against per game.
- Connor Theriault, the First Team All-Ivy goalie, has made 13 starts between the pipes and holds a 9-4 record. He leads the Ivy League and ranks 22nd in the NCAA with a 10.90 goals against average and his .562 save percentage ranks first in the Ivy League and ninth in the nation. Among underclassmen, Theriault leads the nation in both categories.
- The Bears' man-down defense clicks at .761 (35-for-46) to lead the conference and rank fourth in the NCAA. The Bears have held opponents to zero EMO goals in six games this season and hold a 5-1 record in those games.
- Honorable Mention All-Ivy selection Matthew Gunty serves as Brown's primary faceoff man. The Bethesda, Maryland native holds a .531 win-rate (180-339) with a team-leading 88 ground balls. His 6.77 ground balls per game rank second in the conference and 20th in the NCAA.
- In the clearing game, Brown leads the Ivy League and rank 22nd in the NCAA at .877. Opponents clear the ball at a .821 rate against the Bears.
- Penn enters the 2022 Ivy League Tournament with an 8-4 overall record and 3-3 conference mark.
- The Quakers have won four straight after falling to Brown in early April, taking victories over Harvard (Apr. 16), Dartmouth (Apr. 23), St. Joseph's (Apr. 26), and UAlbany (Apr. 30).
- Offensively, Penn ranks sixth in the conference and 29th in the NCAA with 12.92 goals scored per game.
- Sam Handley, the Ivy League Player of the Year, leads the team in points (54) and assists (27). He ranks second on the team with 27 goals. Handley ranks sixth in the conference and 21st in the NCAA with 4.42 points per game.
- Dylan Gergar leads the team with 37 goals and ranks second on the team with 50 points. His 3.08 goals per game ranks fourth in the conference and 13th in the NCAA. His 4.17 points per game rank seventh in the conference and 34th in the NCAA.
- Penn's man-up offense clicks at .450 (18-40) to rank third in the Ivy and 14th in the nation.
- Defensively, Penn allows 11.50 goals per game to rank second in the conference and 36th in the NCAA.
- Patrick Burkinshaw has made 11 starts between the pipes for the Quakers and holds an 8-2 record. He ranks second in the conference with an 11.21 goals against average and .543 save percentage. The .543 save percentage ranks 13th in the country. Burkinshaw's 13.09 saves per game rank third in the conference and 15th in the NCAA.
- The Quakers' man-down defense ranks near the bottom of the NCAA at .541 (20-37). Penn has allowed at least one man-up goal in every game this season.
- Jamie Zusi serves as Penn's primary faceoff man and holds a .523 percentage (124-237). He leads the team with 63 ground balls.
- In the clearing game, Penn ranks third in the Ivy League at .844. Opponents clear the ball at a .858 rate against Penn.
- Saturday marks the 60th meeting between Brown and Penn with the Bears holding a 35-24 all-time record against the Quakers.
- The series has been extremely close of late, with both teams winning five of the last 10 games and 10 of the last 20 games.
- In the last 10 games, Penn has outscored Brown 106-104.
- In the last 20 games, Penn has outscored Brown 198-195.
- In the last 30 games, Brown has outscored Penn 319-288.
- In series history, Brown has outscored Penn 600-567.
- The Bears took a 12-10 win over the eighth-ranked Penn in Philadelphia on April 16 to snap a two-game conference skid and three-game losing streak.
- Penn jumped to a 5-0 lead through 15 minutes but the Bears battled back to take a 7-6 lead late in the second quarter.
- Ryan Aughavin, Devon McLane, and Reed Moshyedi all recorded four points to lead the Bears offensively.
- Connor Theriault finished with 13 saves compared to 17 for Patrick Burkinshaw.
- Handley and Gergar led the Quakers offensively with three points apiece.
- After dropping conference games to Harvard (Mar. 19) and Princeton (Apr. 2) to begin the slate, the Bears found themselves down 5-0 through 15 minutes at Penn (Apr. 9).
- In the 15 Ivy League quarters since, Brown has outscored its ancient rivals 60-32.
- The Bears outscored Penn, 12-5, in the final three quarters before taking a 20-13 win over Yale (Apr. 16), a 13-8 win over Cornell (Apr. 23) and a 15-6 win over Dartmouth (Apr. 30).
- Brown was outscored 34-20 in the first nine Ivy quarters it played.
- The Bears saw 11 players score a goal and 12 record at least a point in the non-conference win over Bryant (Apr. 26).
- It marked the most for Brown since the win at Providence (Mar. 5), where 13 players scored and 14 recorded a point.
- Ten players recorded a point in the win over Dartmouth (Apr. 30), marking the fourth straight game 10 or more players have found the scoresheet.
- With 65 points, McLane is six points shy of matching Dylan Molloy's 2017 total for 10th most in program history. He is currently tied for 15th in program history alongside Mick Matthews '85 (1985).
- With 43 goals, McLane sits 13th in Brown history and is three goals shy of matching Oliver Marti '93 (1993), Andy Towers '93 (1993) and Tad Barrows '80 (1980) for ninth in Bruno history.
- Theriault has been stellar in Brown's five-game winning streak entering the Tournament.
- During the stretch, Theriault holds a 9.20 goals against average and .637 save percentage.
- He has stopped 79-of-124 shots on goal in the last five games.
