#17 Men's Lacrosse Hosts UMass in Non-Conference Action at Stevenson-Pincince

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The 17th-ranked Brown Bears (5-2, 0-1 Ivy) return to Stevenson-Pincince Field to host the UMass Minutemen (4-3, 0-0 CAA) in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+. The game is also Brown's Youth Day, with kids 12 and under receiving free admission to the game. Additionally, both the men's and women's lacrosse programs are leading a Mental Health Awareness Weekend at the Center for Lacrosse & Soccer, aimed at de-stigmatizing mental health care in our community.

- Brown enters Saturday with a 5-2 record with a perfect 4-0 home record and 1-2 mark away from Stevenson-Pincince Field. Brown holds wins over Quinnipiac, Vermont, Villanova, Providence, and Stony Brook with losses to 10th-ranked North Carolina and 19th-ranked Harvard.
- The Bears are 17th per the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, and 20th per the USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
- Junior Devon McLane leads the team in goals (25), assists (16), points (41), shots (70), shots on goal (45), and man-up goals (6). Senior Darian Cook is second on the team in goals (18), assists (14), and points (32) through seven games.
- As a team, Brown's offense ranks second in the Ivy League and 14th in the NCAA with 14.29 goals scored per game. Brown's shot percentage (.328) ranks third in the conference and 11th in the NCAA.
- Brown's man-up offense ranks second in the conference and ninth in the NCAA, clicking at .520 (12-for-25). Brown's man-down defense leads the Ivy League and is tied for ninth in the NCAA, clicking at .731 (19-for-26).
- Between the pipes, sophomore Connor Theriault has started six games and holds a 11.31 goals against average and .539 save percentage.
- As a team, Brown's defense ranks fifth in the conference and 35th in the NCAA with 11.57 goals against per game.
- Brown holds a .859 clear percentage to rank second in the Ivy League and 32nd in the NCAA. Opponents clear the ball at a .776 rate against the Bears.
- At the X, Matthew Gunty leads Bears with a .540 win-rate (87-for-161) to rank 31st in the NCAA. With 8.00 ground balls per game, Gunty leads the Ivy League and is tied for ninth in the NCAA.
- UMass enters Saturday with a 4-3 record with four home wins and three road losses.
- The Minutemen started the season 1-3 with losses to Army, Boston U., and Yale and a win over UMass Lowell. Since then, they've won three straight at home over UAlbany, LIU, and Vermont.
- Gabriel Procyk leads the team with 15 goals and 19 points. Kevin Tobin leads UMass with 13 assists. Four Minutemen have reached double digit goals along with Procyk and a total of six UMass players have 10 or more points.
- As a team, UMass is tied for 30th in the NCAA with 12.43 goals per game.
- The Minutemen's EMO offense also ranks 30th in the NCAA with 13 goals in 32 attempts (.409).
- Between the pipes, Matt Knote has started all seven games and holds a 10.94 goals against average and .493 save percentage.
- As a team, UMass ranks 30th in the NCAA with 11.14 goals against per game.
- UMass' man-down defense has allowed 11 goals in 27 attempts to rank 44th in the NCAA (.593).
- UMass holds a .876 clear percentage to rank 21st in the NCAA. Opponents clear the ball at a .777 rate against the Minutemen.
- At the X, Caleb Hammett has taken the majority of faceoffs and holds a .563 win-rate (72-for-128). His win percentage ranks 26th in the NCAA.
- McLane is one of two Ivy Leaguers with more than 20 goals this season and the lone Ivy man with more than 40 points to this point of the season.
- He leads the Ivy League and is fifth in the NCAA with 5.86 points per game.
- With 3.57 goals per game, McLane is second in the Ivy League and seventh in the NCAA.
- He is second in the conference and tied for 15th in the NCAA with 2.29 assists per game.
- He is one of five players in the NCAA with six or more man-up goals this season. He has more man-up goals than 15 teams to this point of the season.
- Cook ranks fifth in the conference and tied for 22nd in the NCAA with 2.00 assists per game.
- His 4.57 points per game rank sixth in the Ivy League and 21st in the NCAA.
- Cook's .462 shot percentage ranks sixth in the Ivy League and tied for 19th in the NCAA.
- Graduate student Ryan Aughavin recorded his second hat trick of the season and 10th of his career in the loss at Harvard (Mar 19).
- Aughavin previously recorded four goals and a career-high six points in Brown's win at Providence (Mar. 5).
- The seven Ivy League programs have compiled a staggering 27-7 non-conference record to this point of the season.
- Five of the seven combined losses have come against top-10 opponents.
- The Ivy League's .794 win percentage in non-conference games leads the nation and ranks ahead of the ACC (23-11, .676) and the Big 10 (33-16, .673).
- Six of the seven Ivy League programs rank in the top-20 in all three major polls. Dartmouth, the lone unranked Ivy program, is receiving votes in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and the USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
