CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Brown men's lacrosse team (5-5, 0-3 Ivy) suffered a 12-10 setback to No. 8/7 Harvard (9-1, 3-0 Ivy) on Saturday afternoon at Jordan Field. Senior attacker Jeremy Hopsicker finished with a team-high five points, tallying four goals and an assist.
Brown held a 9-8 lead heading into the final frame, but the Crimson rallied with a four-goal fourth quarter to secure the conference victory.
"Hats off to Harvard," Rothman Head Coaching Chair for Men's Lacrosse Jon Torpey said. "We had so many chances we left off the board throughout the game, and especially late in the game. This team never gives up or backs down, but we need to finish the game. We will regroup and get back to work on Monday."
Hopsicker's four goals marked the fourth time this season with four or more goals in a game. Two of the seniors' goals on Saturday were behind-the-back. Brady O'Kane and Jackson Wolfram (one assist) each chipped in two goals, while Marcus Wertheim tallied a goal and two assists. Preston Evans also found the back of the net for the Bears.
Brown opened the game with a flurry of offense, posting five goals in the first quarter to take a 5-4 lead. The Crimson answered by outscoring the Bears 3-1 in the second quarter, carrying a narrow 7-6 advantage into halftime.
The Bears reclaimed the momentum out of the break, outscoring Harvard 3-1 in the third quarter to take a one-goal lead into the final 15 minutes. However, Harvard's offensive attack late gave the Crimson a 12-10 win over Brown.
Despite the loss, Brown outshot the Crimson 44-37 and secured a 27-22 edge in ground balls. At the faceoff, Henry Brayer won 16 of his 25 matchups.
Defensively, Oliver Bligh led the Bears with five ground balls. In net, goaltending duties were split between Connor Foley and Tucker Williams (0-2), who combined for seven saves. Harvard's goaltender Graham Stevens (9-1) finished with 11 saves on the day.
