3/14/2022 12:45:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Brown senior captain Luke Gaydos was announced as one of 20 candidates for the 2022 Senior CLASS Award, announced earlier today by the Senior CLASS Award Foundation.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Gaydos is pursuing his Bachelor's degree at Brown with concentrations in Economics and American Political Science.
He serves as Co-President of Brown's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, elected by fellow student-athletes prior to the 2021-22 academic year. In that role, he leads bi-weekly SAAC Executive Board meetings and regularly meets with Brown's Executive Leadership Team for student-athlete input. Gaydos also coordinated the SAAC's involvement with the Alex Archie Foundation.
In addition, Gaydos served as Brown's Student-Athlete Services and Wellness Chair in the SAAC as a sophomore and junior. He led the development of a media series titled 'Perspectives' to empower student-athlete voices, experiences, and ideas.
Gaydos participated in Boston Children's Hospital's head-shaving event as a freshman and sophomore to support the BCH mission. He is also involved with Brown Lacrosse's Team IMPACT member, Nicholas Cioe, a Rhode Island high school student with cerebral palsy who joined the team in 2016.
Active in the Brown community at-large, Gaydos is a member of Brown's Screenwriting Collective, joining the group after the 2020 lacrosse season was cut short.
On the field, Gaydos has started all six games in 2022 at close defense. He is second on the team with 17 ground balls and six caused turnovers.
In 2020, Gaydos started all five games and led the Bears with 10 caused turnovers and added 10 ground balls. He also played in 15 of 16 games as a freshman at close defense, finishing the season with 17 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.
Gaydos and the 13th-ranked Brown Bears (5-1, 0-0 Ivy League) open Ivy League conference play this Saturday (Mar. 19) at 17th-ranked Harvard (3-1, 0-0 Ivy League). Saturday's conference-opener is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
