Men's Hockey Battles in Tuesday Loss at Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College Eagles (8-5-2, 5-3-1 HEA) tallied three third period goals to take a 5-2 home win over the Brown Bears (3-8-0, 3-5-0 ECAC) Tuesday night at Conte Forum.
"I thought that it looked like we had some tired legs tonight and that's not a good team to have tired legs against," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "Boston College is an elite team in the NCAA with a long and storied program, and it didn't seem like we had the jump we needed. That being said, we tied it up 1-1 late in the second, we have to find a way to get to the third 1-1 to give ourselves an opportunity. It wasn't a great night for us, but we'll find a way to be much better on Friday in a huge game in terms of standings implications and points in the league."
Marc McLaughlin deflected a centering pass from the slot past Brown goaltender Mathieu Caron (22 saves) to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead 4:54 into the opening frame. Patrick Giles sent the pass in from the right boards and McLaughlin fought through a Brown defenseman for his 10th goal of the season.
Jonny Russell had Brown's best chance of the opening frame with a clean breakaway 11:20 into the frame. Russell skated toward BC goaltender Eric Dop (16 saves) with speed and tried to rifle a shot over Dop's left shoulder, but the former Bowling Green goaltender made the save and covered for a whistle.
Justin Jallen tied the game 14:48 into the second period, wiring a one-timer from the top of the slot past Dop's glove. Tristan Crozier hit Jallen with a pass from the left dot for the assist with Samuli Niinisaari picking up the secondary assist.
The Eagles re-claimed the lead 1:55 after Brown's goal as Giles found the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season. Marshall Warren assisted on the tally.
Boston College added goals at 2:56 and 5:10 of the third period to make it 4-1. Colby Ambrosio and Nikita Nesterenko scored the respective goals for the Eagles.
McLaughlin scored his second of the game at 13:35 of the third, beating Caron on a clean breakaway with assists from Trevor Kuntar and Giles.
Michael Maloney cut into BC's lead nine seconds later, finishing a centering pass from Wyatt Schlaht to make it 5-2. Luke Krys hit Schlaht with a long pass through the neutral zone following the center ice faceoff for the secondary assist.
