PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Boston University Terriers (7-9-3, 5-5-3 HEA) opened the second half of the season with a 5-1 win over the Brown Bears (3-10-0, 3-6-0 ECAC) Friday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium.
Prior to puck drop, Brown University Athletics recognized Senior Associate Director of Athletics Tom Bold, who worked his final game before retirement after 38 years of service to Brown University.
"It was not a very good game from us from start to finish," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "We looked extremely rusty and a little bit off. I give BU credit; they came in and played a great game with a short bench. We need to be much better entering Sunday to have any chance of being successful against better hockey teams."
Luke Tuch put the Terriers ahead 2:33 into the first period after receiving a stretch pass from Jay O'Brien for a breakaway on Brown goaltender Luke Kania (25 saves).
Tuch scored his second of the season 13:24 into the opening frame, burying a cross-crease pass from Max Kaufman, a University of Vermont transfer, with a secondary assist from O'Brien.
Sam Stevens made it 3-0 Terriers at the 5:02 mark of the middle period, deflecting a blue line shot from Alex Vlasic past Kania and into the net. Jamie Armstrong, a Warwick, Rhode Island native, added the secondary assist on the goal.
Justin Jallen pushed his point streak to five games with a Brown goal 21 seconds into the third period to make it 3-1. Defenseman Brett Bliss flipped the puck towards BU goaltender Vinny Duplessis (11 saves) from the neutral zone, and after a bobble from Duplessis, Jallen banged home the loose puck for the goal. Luke Krys added the secondary assist on the goal.
Kaufman made it 4-1 Terriers with 2:52 remaining in the third, sending the puck the length of the ice where it found the empty net.
The Terriers added another empty-net goal with 1:17 remaining in the third as Vlasic sent the puck the length of the ice to make it 5-1.
Brown hosts the Merrimack College Warriors (6-9-1, 3-7-0 HEA) Sunday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium. Sunday's game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+. Click here to purchase tickets.
