Men's Hockey Returns to Ice to Host Boston University Friday; Merrimack Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown returns to action to host a pair of Hockey East opponents in Boston University (6-9-3, 5-5-3 HEA) on Friday, December 31 and Merrimack (6-9-1, 3-7-0 HEA) on Sunday, January 2.
Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday's game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at Meehan Auditorium. Both games will stream on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown hits the ice with a 3-9-0 overall record and 3-6-0 ECAC conference record. The Bears sit in seventh in the ECAC standings with 10 conference points in nine games played.
- Michael Maloney leads the team with four goals with Justin Jallen sitting second on the team with three goals. Five additional Bears have two goals to this point of the season.
- Jallen and Samuli Niinisaari lead the team with five assists apiece. Jake Harris and Luke Krys are third on the team with four assists and six additional Bears have at least two assists.
- Jallen and Tristan Crozier both enter the weekend with four-game point streaks. Jallen has three goals and three assists and Crozier has two goals and two assists in the stretch.
- Between the pipes, Mathieu Caron has made 10 starts and holds a 3.10 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. Luke Kania has made four starts and holds a 3.25 goals against average and a .913 save percentage.
- On special teams, Brown ranks fifth in the conference and ninth in the NCAA on the penalty kill with an 88.5% success rate (46-for-52).
- The Terriers enter Friday with a 6-9-3 overall record and 5-5-3 Hockey East conference mark.
- BU swept New Hampshire in early December following a 6-4 loss to Cornell to close out the month of November.
- Wilmer Skoog and Dylan Peterson are tied for the team-lead with six goals apiece while Domenick Fensore leads the team with 11 assists and 14 points.
- Boston University's offense ranks eighth in Hockey East and tied for 40th in the NCAA with 2.50 goals scored per game.
- Between the pipes, Drew Commesso has started 17 of 18 games this season. He holds a .900 save percentage and a 2.82 goals against average in 979:49 minutes played.
- On special teams, the Terriers rank in the middle of the NCAA on the power play (16.9%; t36th) and the penalty kill (80.9%; 33rd).
- Friday afternoon marks the 83rd meeting between Brown and Boston University in a series dating back to 1927.
- Brown holds a 21-58-3 all-time record against Boston University, an 11-25-1 record at home, and a 4-8-1 record at Meehan Auditorium.
- Friday afternoon marks the second meeting since 2020 but just the third since 2011 and fifth since 1997.
- Merrimack enters the weekend with a 6-9-1 overall record and 3-7-0 Hockey East record. The Warriors most recently skated to a 2-2 tie at home against Dartmouth and will take on Yale on New Year's Day in New Haven, Connecticut.
- Against common opponents, Merrimack holds a tie against Dartmouth (Dec. 17) and a 3-2 win over Holy Cross (Nov. 23). The Warriors also split weekend series with Boston College, Boston University, and Colgate.

- Zachary Borgiel has started 11 games for Merrimack and holds a 2.90 goals against average and a .888 save percentage. His record is 4-5-1. Hugo Olias has started five games for Merrimack with a 3.14 goals against and a .883 save percentage. His record is 2-3-0.
- On special teams, Merrimack ranks 42nd in the NCAA on the power play with a 15.3% success rate (9-for-59). The Warriors rank 45th in the NCAA on the penalty kill with a 76.2% success rate (50-for-63).
- Sunday marks the 14th meeting between Brown and Merrimack in a series dating back to 1975. It's the first meeting since February 2009, a 2-0 Merrimack win.
- Brown holds a 5-6-2 record in the series and a 4-1-0 mark at home.
