
Men’s Hockey Heads to Colgate for ECAC First Round Series

Ninth-seeded Brown will visit Colgate in best-of-three series
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey team will open up the ECAC playoffs with a best-of-three first round matchup at eighth-seeded Colgate on March 6-8 at the Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton, New York.
Matchup: No. 9 Brown (8-19-2, 8-12-2 ECAC) at No. 8 Colgate (10-16-8, 8-9-5 ECAC)

Brown closed out the regular season with a lone-goal loss at No. 17 Quinnipiac and a 2-0 shutout win at Princeton. Defensemen James Crossman and Zach Giuttari provided the scoring in the win over Princeton, while Gavin Nieto stopped all 32 shots he faced, earning his second shutout of the season. He made 17 saves in the third period and reached the 30-save mark for the eighth time this season. Joachim Weberg scored the lone goal against Quinnipiac. Brown went 9-for-9 on the penalty kill during the two-game span.
About the ECAC Tournament
The 12-team ECAC postseason features a best-of-three series format in the first round and quarterfinals, played at campus sites, before single elimination in the semifinal and championship games at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid. Teams will be re-seeded after each round so that the highest seed plays the lowest seed.
Scouting Colgate
Colgate tied both Clarkson and St. Lawrence this past weekend and is 1-6-2 since the start of February, including a loss at Brown. Bobby McMann leads the team with 19 points and is one of three players with a team-high nine goals. Jared Cockrell leads the way with 15 points against conference opponents. Andrew Farrier and Mitch Benson have shared time in net this season with 18 and 16 starts, respectively. Benson started both game over the weekend and leads the duo with a 2.25 GAA and a .921 save percentage. Colgate is averaging 2.06 goals per game and is ranked last in the league on the power play at 9.7 percent.
