Princeton, N.J. – Brown tied the school record for wins in a season (19) behind a game high 21 points by junior Brandon Anderson (Mahwah, NJ), leading the Bears to a 67-63 Ivy League win over Princeton Friday afternoon, to complete their first season sweep of the Tigers since 2008.
With one game remaining in the regular season Saturday evening against Penn in Philadelphia (6:00 pm start), the Bears remain alone in fourth place in the Ivy standings with a 7-6 league mark, 19-10 overall, while Princeton falls to 16-10 overall, 8-5 in league play. The Bears will be scoreboard watching tonight with key Ivy League games between Yale and Penn as well as Harvard and Cornell.
"I'm really pleased by our team's defensive effort once again," said Brown head coach Mike Martin. "We won the game with our defense over the course of 40 minutes. Offensively, Brandon (Anderson) and Obi (Okolie) were outstanding attacking the paint and making decisions."
Brown held a 13 point second half lead, 60-47, with 2:14 remaining, when junior Chris Sullivan knocked down a trey for his only points of the game.
The Tigers rallied with a 13-2 run, with back-to back treys by Jaelin Llewellyn and capped off by five straight points by Jose Morales to trail, 62-60.
A layup by sophomore Tamenang Choh (Lowell, MA) and two free throws by junior Zach Hunsaker put the Bears back up by six points, 66-60, with 13 seconds left on the clock. A late trey by Princeton's Ethan Wright made it a three-point game, 66-63, but Anderson iced the game for the Bears with a free throw.
Anderson's 21 points came on 8-13 shooting from the field, while adding four rebounds. Senior Obi Okolie (Ajax, Ontario) also scored in double figures for the Bears with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field.
Brown sophomore Desmond Cambridge (Nashville, TN) chipped in with nine points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Sophomore Tamenang Choh (Lowell, MA) had seven points, six rebounds and six assists, while Hunsaker also scored seven points.
Brown's stifling defense held the Tigers to just 8-of-30 shooting from beyond the three-point arc and 36-percent shooting overall.
The Tigers were paced by Richmond Aririguzoh, who posted a double-double with 20 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Myles Stevens (11 points) and Moralez (10 points also scored in double figures, while Ethan Wright added nine points and 10 rebounds.
Brown led by as many as nine points in the opening half, 23-14, on a jump shot by Cambridge with 6:58 remaining.
The Tigers pulled back to within four points, 25-22, on a trey by Noah Bramlage, but Brown quickly responded to grab a 31-23 lead at the half with Okolie hitting two treys in the 6-1 spurt.
The Bears pulled ahead, 47-36, on a steal and layup by Anderson with 11:51 left in the game. The lead expanded to 12 points at the 5:40 mark, 55-42, on trey by Okolie.
If Yale defeats Penn and Harvard defeats Cornell later tonight, the Bears will clinch a spot in the Ivy League Tournament which will be played next week in New Haven, CT.
