Men’s Basketball Drops Season Opener to Siena, 62-46

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's basketball team (0-1) dropped its season opener 62-46 to Siena (2-0) on Friday evening inside the Pizzitola Sports Center.
"Our defense wasn't the issue, but we have to do a better job on the defensive glass for sure," Men's Basketball Head Coaching Chair Mike Martin '04 said. "Offensively in a 66 possession game we only scored 46 points. I thought we had some decent looks, but too many turnovers. A lot of the guys probably had some nervous energy out there and I thought it was very choppy especially early on, our pressure got us going a little bit trying to create something offensively but they deserve a lot of credit."
After Adrian Uchidiuno opened the game with a three-pointer, Siena launched an 18-4 run over the next nine minutes to take an 18-7 lead.
While the Saints led 21-12, the Bears countered a 5-0 run of their own with back-to-back baskets by Charlie O'Sullivan, O'Sullivan's first collegiate basket was a three-pointer, the two baskets by O'Sullivan cut the Saints' lead to 21-17 late in the first half.
Following two baskets by O'Sullivan, Siena closed the half on an 8-4 run to take a 29-19 lead into halftime. Brown's bench outscored Siena's 7-4 in the opening 20 minutes, highlighted by O'Sullivan's five points.
Siena led by as much as 25 in the second half. Gavin Doty led the way for the Saints, shooting 6-6 from the floor.
Brown's bench continued to be strong in the second half as Luke Paragon had five points and Drew Kania had four. The Bears' bench outscored the Saints' 16-12.
Overall, Brown's bench outscored Siena's 23-16. Adrian Uchidiuno led the way for Brown with 11 points, O'Sullivan poured in eight in his collegiate debut. As a team, the Bears had five blocks and eight steals.
