CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Grace Ladd and freshman Lauren Innerst combined to allow just one earned run over 12.0 innings, but Brown University softball dropped a doubleheader to Harvard University, 2-0 and 6-2, on Saturday afternoon at Soldiers Field.
In the final two games of a three-game Ivy League series, the Bears (8-13, 1-5 Ivy) limited the Crimson (10-12, 4-2 Ivy) to five earned runs on the day, but the hosts – the defending Ivy League champions and preseason picks to win the conference – took early leads in both contests on their way to the series sweep.
"We competed with Harvard in all three games of this series," Brown head coach Kate Refsnyder said. "For the majority of the series, our pitchers did a good job of limiting their offense, but I give Harvard credit for finding a way to win all three games on the weekend."
Ladd (Boudler, Colo.) did not give up an earned run over 5.0 innings on the day while Innerst (San Jose, Calif.) allowed just one earned run over 7.0 innings between the two contests. At the plate, sophomore Katie O'Leary (Manteca, Calif.) and senior Cat Seitz (Poway, Calif.) each posted two hits.
Next, Brown plays in its first home games of the year when the Bears host Providence on Wednesday, Apr. 3 at 4:00 p.m. prior to hosting Princeton in a three-game series, comprising a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 6 starting at 12:30 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, Apr. 7 at 12:30 p.m.
