
Strong Second Half Leads Field Hockey to 3-2 Win at Sacred Heart

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Brown field hockey team scored three unanswered goals in the second half to pick up a 3-2 non-conference victory against Sacred Heart at Yale's Johnson Field on Sunday afternoon. Senior Rachel Lanouette (Windham, N.H.) and freshman Danielle van Rootselaar (Bilthoven, Netherlands) both registered a goal and an assist to lead the Bears.
The Pioneers (6-7) notched the first half's lone goal when Makenna Crawford scored at 31:35 to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. Sacred Heart outshot Brown 8-3 while the Bears had a 3-2 edge in penalty corners. Senior Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) made six saves in net for the Bears.
Brown (4-7) opened the second half with three-straight goals to take control of the game. Van Rootselaar recorded the first tally at 43:30 to even the contest 1-1 with her fifth score of the season. Junior Corinne Condie (St. Louis, Mo.) gave the Bears their first lead of the afternoon at 60:24 following a penalty corner while Lanouette added the assist. Brown again capitalized following a penalty corner as Lanouette scored a goal of her own at 62:55, her sixth of the year, for a two-goal Bear lead (3-1). Van Rootselaar provided the helper on the play. Â
Marlena Koellner pulled the Pioneers within one at 66:07 but the Bears closed down the Sacred Heart attack for the remainder of the game and did not allow a shot.
The second half ended with the Bears holding a commanding 14-2 advantage in shots and penalty corners (7-2). Hammaker concluded the afternoon with seven saves while Allyssa Stevens made seven stops in the second. Emily Degennaro manned the cage for SHU in the first and turned away one shot.

Brown will resume Ivy League play and hit the road to compete against No. 5 Princeton on Saturday, Oct. 13 in a noon-time game.Â
