
Field Hockey Heads to No. 3 Princeton on Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown field hockey team will travel to No. 3 Princeton on Saturday, Oct. 13 for a 12:00 p.m. conference game at Bedford Field. The Bears will be playing their second straight ranked Ivy League opponent, having hosted No. 11 Harvard on Friday, Oct. 5.

Freshman Danielle van Rootselaar leads Brown in scoring with 14 points on five goals and four assists. The rookie's point total is tied for seventh best in the conference. Senior Rachel Lanouette (3G, 6A) and junior Gina Openshaw (6G) are tied for second in scoring, each with 12 points. Lanouette's six assists are third in the Ivy League while Openshaw's six goals are tied for fifth. Senior Katie Hammaker has started all 11 games in the cage and leads the Ivy League in total saves with 73 on the year. She made a season-high 11 stops against William & Mary on Sept. 7.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
The Tigers enter the weekend ranked 3rd in Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll with a 10-3 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark in the Ivy League. Princeton has won five straight, including a 5-2 victory over No. 3 UConn on Oct. 7. The team's last loss was Sept. 18 against then No. 3 Maryland, 5-4, in double overtime. Clara Roth leads the Tigers in points with 23 on the year on nine goals and five assists. Her 23 points and nine goals are both tied for the league lead. Hannah Davey leads the squad in assists with seven and has two goals for 11 points. Her assist output is second best in the conference. Grace Baylis has started all 13 games in goal for Princeton and has a 1.55 goals-against average and three shutouts. As a team, the Tigers rank first in the conference in total goals (41) and penalty corners (8.00 per game).
HAMMAKER IN THE RECORD BOOK
Senior Katie Hammaker has moved up the list of all-time goalkeeping records at Brown and is fourth in saves (419) and second in games played (62). Meg Stewart '82 is next up on the save list, in third with 450, while Shannon McSweeney '15 is first in games played with 68. Hammaker is also eighth in wins (19) and tied for 10th in career shutouts (4).
DOUBLE TAKE
Brown has two sets of siblings on its 2018 roster in junior Allee Ayles and senior Maddie Ayles along with sophomore twins Anagha and Anya Nayak.
