Field Hockey Opens Ivy League Play with 3-1 Loss to No. 18 Yale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown field hockey team (1-3, 0-1) opened Ivy League play with a 3-1 loss to No. 18 Yale (5-0, 1-0) on Saturday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field.
The Bulldogs out-shot the Bears 4-1 in the opening quarter, two of Yale's shots were stopped by Ellie Parker. Brown's lone first quarter shot came from Lizzie Loftus.
The Bears opened the scoring 57 seconds into the second quarter. On a penalty corner opportunity, Lucy Adams passed the ball to Mia Karine Myklebust, who laid the ball off to Lexi Pellegrino, and Pellegrino was able to find the back of the net. Pellegrino's 27th career goal put her tied for fifth in program history, Pellegrino's 59 career points is tied for ninth in program history. Pellegrino's goal was Brown's fifth goal off of a penalty corner this season, the Bears entered this weekend ranked 10th nationally in attack penalty corner percentage.
Brown went on to out-shoot Yale 5-2 in the second quarter while generating five penalty corner chances. Parker made one stop in the second to keep Brown in front heading into the second half.
The Bulldogs knotted the game at one 57 seconds into the second half on a goal from Lauren Venter. Yale held Brown without a shot in the third quarter as the game entered the final quarter tied at one.
Parker made two saves early in the fourth, keeping the game knotted at one. The Bulldogs broke through and took a 2-1 lead 4:25 into the fourth on a goal from Poppy Beales.
Yale had a chance to extend its lead to 3-1 with 6:50 remaining, a penalty stroke by Hettie Whittington was denied by Kylee Del Monte, who entered to defend the penalty stroke. Following the penalty stroke, Parker reentered the contest and made one more save, Parker was pulled for an extra player on the field and Yale capitalized on the Brown empty net to take a 3-1 lead.
Parker finished with six saves, the second-most in a game this season. Pellegrino has scored in back-to-back games, her two goals lead the Bears, her five points also lead the Bears.
Brown will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 21 when they welcome Stonehill to Goldberger Family Field at 1 p.m.
