Softball Sweeps Cornell in Sunday Doubleheader as Offense Explodes

ITHACA, N.Y. – Brown softball (17-21, 8-8 Ivy) earned a much-needed doubleheader sweep over Cornell (20-22, 7-12 Ivy) on Sunday (April 2^) as the Bears continue to battle for a spot in the Ivy League Tournament.
Edie Cobb was stellar in the circle again for the Bears, allowing just one run. The sophomore has allowed just one run in her last 16.2 innings of work. Cobb picked up the win in game two, while earning the save in game one.
Macy Borowski earned the win in the first game, throwing 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven. With her seventh strikeout of the game, Borowski collected her 250th-career strikeout.
GAME 1: Brown 5, Cornell 3
Borowski not only picked up the win in the first game, but went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in two runs. Lilly Burns also had two hits in the win and four other Bears collected knocks.
Brown did its damage early, scoring runs four of its five runs in the first three innings. The Bears first run of the game came in the top of the second after back-to-back singles by Borowski and Cameron Zytkewicz Ray started the inning. Two batters later, Burns singled to right to score the run.
With one out in the third, Elli Thompson crushed a ball to dead center field to make it 2-0. After walk drawn by Bettencourt, Borowski drove an outside pitch over the right field wall to double the Bears lead to 4-0.
Two runs by the Big Red in the third were followed by a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. After two runners reached with one out, Cobb entered in relief and was able to get out of the inning.
Borowski doubled in the top of the seventh and Amanda Deng, who entered as a pinch runner, scored on a sacrifice fly by Zytkewicz Ray.
Cobb allowed a runner to get to third in the seventh but got a pop up and groundout to end the game.
GAME 2: Brown 14, Cornell 1 (5 innings)
Edie Cobb tossed a complete game one-hitter and Brown scored its second-highest run total of the season in a five-inning win at Cornell to close out the day.
Seven Bears picked up hits with Elli Thompson leading the way, going 3-for-4 with four runs scored and an RBI. Lilly Burns and Alyssa Villarde each had two hits.
Burns drove in a team-high three runs and Villarde finished with two RBI. Maya Choksi scored three runs, collecting a hit and drawing two walks.
Brown got things going in the first inning with a walk and single to start the game. After a pop up, Macy Borowski singled home the first run for the Bears. Two batters later, Burns singled to score two more and Brown led 3-0 after one.
A one-out double by Choksi was followed by another double by Thompson to make it 4-0. Later in the inning, two wild pitches brought home two more runs for the Bears. Cameron Zytkewicz Ray then doubled to score Cobb and Villarde singled up the middle to score Zytkewicz Ray and the route was on.
Cornell scored their lone run in the bottom of the second before Brown took advantage of two errors by the Big Red and another wild pitch, to lead 11-1 after the top of the third.
After a scoreless fourth, Brown added another run on an error and back-to-back RBI singles by Burns and Villarde made it 14-1.
The 13-run victory for Brown was the largest win since beating Holy Cross 16-2 on March 22, 2022.
