Baseball to Open Ivy Play this Weekend at Yale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team is set to open Ivy League play this weekend with a three-game series at Yale. The Bears and Bulldogs enter the start of league play with the top two winning percentages in the league so far this season, with Yale sitting at 8-6, and the Bears at 5-9.

SCOUTING BROWN (5-9, 0-0 Ivy)
- The Bears are coming off a 7-3 midweek loss on Wednesday to Northeastern.
- Brown ranks third in the Ivy League with a .265 team batting average this season, while the pitching staff ranks fourth with a 7.01 ERA.
- Sophomore outfielder Alex Benevento ranks fifth in the Ivy League with a .346 batting average. He ranks third in the league in slugging (.538), fifth in on-base (.443), and fifth in RBIs (14).
- Benevento had his 15-game on-base streak snapped in Wednesday's loss. He has a hit in 12 of 14 games this season.
- Senior DJ Dillehay has a seven-game on base streak and has hit safely in six of the last seven games. He is tied for second on the team with 10 RBIs.
- Sophomore first baseman Christian Butera leads the Bears with 11 RBIs.
- Freshman shortstop Matt Luigs is hitting .273 and is second on the team with eight walks.
- Senior pitcher Peter Dubie ranks sixth in the league with 19 strikeouts over 19.1 innings. He holds a 5.12 ERA.
- Reliever Christian Keel has not allowed a run over his last five innings and has two of the team's three saves.
- Freshman pitcher Camren Piwnicki was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for his strong performance on the mound in Saturday's comeback win at Seton Hall.
SCOUTING YALE (8-6, 0-0 Ivy)
- Yale holds the Ivy League's top team batting average at .276 this season as well as the second-lowest team ERA at 5.13.
- The Bulldogs love to run, accumulating 41 steals in 49 attempts this season, nearly twice the number of steals compared to the next closest teams (Brown and Dartmouth with 22 each).
- Sophomore ace Jack Ohman leads the Ivy in ERA (1.53), opponent's batting average (.100), and is second in the league with 25 strikeouts over 17.2 innings.
- Alex Hwang has held opponents to a .222 average with 15 strikeouts over 20.0 innings across five appearances (four starts).
- Junior Garrett Larsen leads the league with a .400 batting average and a .507 on-base percentage. He is second with 16 runs scored.
- Jack Dauer leads the league with 17 RBIs.
