Softball Set to Host Five Games, Including Ivy Opener over Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball begins home play this week as the Bears host five games, including their Ivy League opening series.
Brown will host Stonehill for a doubleheader on Thursday (March 19) beginning at 2:30 p.m. The Bears will the begin Ivy League play with a three-game series against Columbia. The Bears and Lions will meet for a doubleheader on Saturday (March 21) beginning at 12:30 p.m. First pitch on Sunday (March 22) will also be at 12:30 p.m.
All five games will be streamed on ESPN+. Sunday's game will also be streamed on NESN+.
Sunday's game against Columbia will also be Brown's Pink Out game, sponsored by Rhode Island Medical Imaging.

ABOUT THE BEARS
- Brown went 2-2 last weekend with the Bears earning two wins over UMass Lowell at the Boston University Round Robin. Brown took down UMass Lowell 4-1 and 7-0 in the wins.
- Macy Borowski was named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week after securing two wins over UMass Lowell. Borowski gave up just one run (0.50 ERA) in the two complete games, striking out 10. In the second game of the weekend, Borowski threw a one-hit shutout.
- Lilly Burns and Elli Thompson both hit two home runs over the weekend as the duo both went yard in each UMass Lowell game.
- Maggie Foxx continues to lead Brown at the plate with a .296 batting average. Cameron Zytkewicz Ray is leading the lineup with nine hits.
- Thompson, who is tied with Burns for the team lead with three home runs, is leading the team with eight runs batted it.
- Stonehill is 1-15 on the season and will play a doubleheader at Boston University on Wednesday (March 18) before making the trip to Providence on Thursday (March 19).
- Stonehill's lone win came against Wagner in a 15-4 victory on March 14, in the team's NEC opener.
- The offense showed up against Wagner, scoring 15 runs. The Skyhawks have a combined 21 runs in their other 15 games.
- Juli Murillo leads the team with a .342 batting average, but the team is hitting just .202 combined.
- Stonehill is allowing its opponents to hit .450 on the year and the lowest ERA belongs to Harper Sullivan, who has an 8.66 ERA in 26.2 innings pitched.
- Brown is 14-7 all-time against Stonehill, including having won three-straight games. Last season, Brown won both games of a doubleheader, winning 5-4 in the first game and 8-0 in six innings in the second game.
- Columbia is 7-12 on the season and has won two-straight games. The Lions will play LIU on Wednesday (March 18) before making the trip to Providence for the weekend.
- Columbia earned a 14-5 win over Manhattan in its last game. Three different Lions hit home runs in the win and three Lions also finished with three RBI.
- Eleni Katsivalis leads the team with a .393 batting average and 23 hits. Savanna Messner and Alicia Marzouca are tied for the team lead with four home runs and Marzouca has a team-best 15 RBI.
- In the circle, Mads Lawson leads Columbia with a 3.91 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 53.2 innings pitched. Lawson holds a 4-5 record in seven complete games.
- Brown is 20-31 all-time against Columbia. The Bears won three of the four meetings last season, including a 2-1 win over the Lions in the Ivy League Tournament.
- In Brown's two wins during the regular season, the offense was explosive, scoring 19 runs.
- Brown took two of three games during the last series played in Providence on April 20-21, 2024.
