Thompson and Burns Homer in Softball's Win over UMass Lowell

BOSTON – Brown softball (2-10) earned a 4-1 win over UMass Lowell to start its weekend at Boston University of Saturday (March 14). The Bears dropped their matchup with Boston U. to finish up Saturday afternoon, 17-0 in five innings.
Brown picked up home runs from both Elli Thompson and Lilly Burns in the win over the River Hawks. It was Thompson's first home run of the season. Macy Borowski threw a complete game in the win over UMass Lowell.
BROWN 4, UMASS LOWELL 1
Brown began its day with a strong win over UMass Lowell as the Bears picked up two home runs over the River Hawks. Burns finished the day with two hits for Brown.
Borowski earned her second win of the season throwing seven innings, allowing just three hits and one run, while striking out four batters.
The Bears had the first real scoring chance of the game in the bottom of the fourth as Brown had runners on first and second with one out. After a strikeout, Burns singled to left but the throw home caught Kaicee Klus and kept the Bears off the board.
In the fifth, UMass Lowell got on the board after a single, sac bunt and wild pitch put the runner on third with one out. A fly out to right scored the run and made it 1-0.
The Bears responded in the bottom of the frame, beginning with a lead-off single by Maya Choksi. A one-out error but runners on first and second for Thompson. On a 1-2 count, Thompson crushed the pitch into the stiff wind coming in from right and easily cleared the fence for a three-run home run to make it 3-1.
Brown picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Burns took a 2-1 pitch over the wall in left for a solo shot.
Borowski allowed a two-out single in the top of the seventh but picked up a flyout in the next at bat to end the game.
BOSTON U. 17, BROWN 0 (5 innings)
The Bears dropped their second game of the day to Boston University, falling in five innings to the Terriers, 17-0.
Boston U., scored in each inning, finishing the game with 13 hits. The Bears picked up three hits, coming from Borowski, Cameron Zytkewicz Ray and Amanda Deng.
After BU scored two in the bottom of the first, Brown had its best scoring chance, loading the bases with no outs, but three strikeouts ended the threat.
UP NEXT
Brown will return to Boston University for two more games on Sunday (March 15), taking on UMass Lowell at 10:30 a.m. and closing out the day against the Terriers at 3 p.m.
