BROWN 7, UMASS LOWELL 0
The Bears took down UMass Lowell, 7-0, to begin play on Sunday behind a stellar one-hitter from Macy Borowski. The junior pitcher threw a complete game, allowing just one hit and one walk, while striking out six batters.
On the offensive side, Brown finished the game with nine hits as Amanda Deng, Maggie Foxx and Cameron Zytkewicz Ray all collected two knocks. The big hits came from Lilly Burns and Elli Thompson, who both hit home runs for the second-straight day.
Brown scored its first runs in the fourth with two outs as Burns homered to left field on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring Foxx, who singled with one out earlier in the inning.
The Bears took control of the game in the sixth, scoring five more runs. Zytkewicz Ray singled to start the inning and a Burns walk put runners on first and second. After two strikeouts, the Bears continued their two-out success. Deng stepped to the plate and doubled to left to score both Lily Berlinger and Maddie Stubenrauch, who had both come in as pinch runners.
After Jasmine Hsiao drew a walk on five pitches, Thompson delivered the knock-out shot with a three-run home run down the right field line to push the lead to 7-0.
Borowski was in control for the whole game. Brown's hurler allowed a double in the second but stranded the runner at third after a wild pitch by striking out the next three batters. The only other inning Borowski did not face the minimum was in the seventh, when she issued a two-out walk. Her sixth strikeout of the game ended the contest.
