BOSTON, Mass. – The Brown women's track and field team captured its first-ever ECAC title for indoor track and field on Sunday at the ECAC/IC4A Championships, hosted by Boston University. The championship performance saw female athletes capture individual titles in three events, in addition to breaking a 19-year old school record.
The men's team also had a stellar performance, capturing third place overall out of 20 teams at the IC4A Championships, while crowning one individual champion in junior Keith Daigneau in the weight throw (19.75m).
WOMEN
The women's team title is the first-ever for a Brown track and field program (men's or women's) and comes on the heels of the women's cross country's ECAC title this past fall. Senior Nimrit Ahuja won the individual title in the mile (4:45.80), junior Rosie Volpintesta won the pentathlon (3,675), and the 4x400m relay team of Sydney Ruckett, Kareema McKenzie, Mia Reaugh, and Kate Scanlan (3:44.17) also took home individual gold medals at the meet.
Junior Alyssa Jackson took home third place overall in the 200 meter dash finishing the final with a time of 24.21. However, on Saturday during the prelims, she turned in a time of 24.01, which shattered the previous school record of 24.33 which had been held by Nicole Burns '09 since 2007.
In total, seven marks landed in the top 10 in women's program history. Also competing in the 200m dash, Anya Anderson tied the fifth-fastest mark of 24.52, Ruckett turned in the No. 7 program time of 55.46 in the 400m, and Julia Schriefer ran the No. 8 time in program history in the 1,000m (2:51.82).
Volpintesta's ECAC title winning pentathlon score of 3,675 ranks sixth all-time. The 4x400 team's winning performance of 3:44.17 sits third in program history, and the distance medley relay's team (Emily Mrakovcic, Sarina Parks, Bria Benigni, Nimrit Ahuja) now ranks sixth after their time of 11:33.43.
MEN
All told, the men's program set five marks that landed in the top 10 all-time in program history. Jason Estrada ran the eighth-fastest time in program history in the prelims of the 200m dash, finishing in 21.90. Trevor Wilder finished the 400m dash in 48.17, putting him fifth in program history. Jaden Stewart leapt 15.19m in the triple jump to rank seventh in program history.
Junior Gabriel Liem Thai registered two program top-10 marks during his runner-up performance in the heptathlon. He cleared 4.68m in the pole vault, good for eighth in program history, while his heptathlon score of 5,041 points ranks third all-time.
