Men's Hockey Travels to Take on St. Lawrence, Clarkson

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (5-19-2, 4-12-2 ECAC) hit the road for the final time in the 2025-26 regular season to take on the St. Lawrence Saints (5-22-3, 4-13-1 ECAC) and the Clarkson Golden Knights (12-15-3, 6-9-3 ECAC) in a weekend series.
Friday's game against the Saints is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. with Saturday's puck drop against the Golden Knights set for 4 p.m. Both games will stream on ESPN+ in the United States and on Stretch Internet internationally.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters the weekend with a 5-19-2 overall record and 4-12-2 ECAC mark. The Bears are coming off a strong home weekend where they took a shootout win over Harvard and a regulation win over 12th-ranked Dartmouth.
- Brown's offense averages 2.2 goals per game with Ben Poitras leading the squad with 10 goals. His 15 points rank second on the squad. Ivan Zadvvernyuk leads the Bears with 13 assists and 20 points.
- Brown's power play has six goals in 72 attempts (8.3%). Poitras and Zadvernyuk lead the squad with two man-up goals apiece.
- Defensively, Brown allows 3.7 goals per game to rank 11th in the conference. Goaltender Tyler Shea holds a .914 save percentage and 3.10 goals against average in 19 starts.
- Brown's penalty kill clicks at 73.6% (64-87) to rank 11th in the ECAC.
- The Bears are eighth in the conference at the faceoff dot, winning 48.9% of draws. Mike Cataldo (54.9%) and Zadvernyuk (51.4%) lead the Brown centermen.
- St. Lawrence enters the weekend with a 5-22-3 overall record and 4-13-1 ECAC mark.
- The Saints are 12th in the ECAC standings with 14 points, two behind Brown and seven behind Clarkson and Yale for eighth.
- St. Lawrence is 3-2-1 over the last six games with wins over Clarkson, Princeton, and RPI.
- St. Lawrence's offense averages 2.3 goals per game to rank 10th in the ECAC and 55th nationally. Rasmus Svartstrom leads the team with 14 goals and is third on the team with 20 points. Tyler Cristall leads the Saints with 19 assists and 28 points.
- The St. Lawrence power play ranks 10th in the league and 53rd nationally at 14.4% (15-104).
- Defensively, St. Lawrence allows 4.4 goals per game to rank last in the NCAA. Between the pipes, Cameron Smith holds a 3.35 goals against average and .908 save percentage in eight starts. He has started the last seven games for the Saints.
- The penalty kill ranks 12th in the ECAC and 58th nationally at 73.5% (72-98).
- St. Lawrence ranks at the bottom of the NCAA at the faceoff dot, winning 43.2% of draws.
- Friday marks the 106th meeting between the Bears and Saints in a series dating back to 1952.
- St. Lawrence owns the series advantage, 53-37-16, along with a 29-14-8 record at Appleton Arena.
- Brown has won three straight in the series and looks to sweep the Saints for the second straight season.
- Clarkson enters the weekend with a 12-15-3 overall record and 6-9-3 ECAC mark. The Golden Knights are tied for eighth in the ECAC standings with 21 points alongside Yale.
- Clarkson is 1-4-2 over the last seven games with the lone win coming against Union, an 8-7 overtime victory.
- Clarkson's offense averages 3.0 goals per game to rank fifth in the league and 28th nationally. Owen Van Steensel leads the team with 11 goals and is second on the team with 24 points. Former Bear Ryan Bottrill leads the Golden Knights with 25 assists and 34 points.
- Clarkson's power play clicks at 19.8% (23-116) to rank sixth in the ECAC and 33rd nationally.
- Defensively, Clarkson allows 3.2 goals per game to rank seventh in the league and 40th nationally.
- Between the pipes, Shane Soderwall holds a 2.84 goals against average and a .895 save percentage in 27 starts.
- Clarkson's penalty kill ranks sixth in the ECAC and 33rd nationally at 80.2% (93-116).
- Saturday is the 109th meeting between the Bears and Golden Knights in a series dating back to 1952.
- Clarkson holds a 76-22-10 record in the series along with a 26-7-6 record at Cheel Arena.
- Brown is 3-1-0 in the last four meetings.
- Tyler Shea picked up the first weekly honor of his career with ECAC Goalie of the Week recognition following a stellar weekend against Harvard and Dartmouth.
- Shea matched a career high with 46 saves in Friday's 2-2 tie against Harvard and added two more saves in the shootout for the extra league point.
- On Saturday, Shea stopped 29 shots as the Bears picked up a 4-3 upset win over the 12th-ranked Dartmouth Big Green.
- Over the weekend, Shea posted a 1-0-1 record with a .938 save percentage and 2.40 goals against average.
- In 2025-26, Shea has 11 games with at least 30 saves and three games with 40 or more saves.
- He holds a .914 save percentage and 3.10 goals against average in 19 starts this season.
- Brown sent Brendan Whittet '94 off a winner with a 4-3 upset victory over the 12th-ranked Dartmouth Big Green on Saturday (Feb. 14).
- The Bears took a 3-2 lead into the third period and held that lead until Nikita Nikora's extra attacker, power play goal with 1:29 remaining tied the game.
- Ben Poitras struck for the game-winner just 32 seconds later, scoring on a breakaway for his 10th goal of the season off assists from Ivan Zadvernyuk and Charlie Gollob.
- Zadvernyuk finished the game with a goal and an assist for his sixth multi-point game of the season.
- The Bears picked up two ECAC league points with a 2-2 tie and shootout win over the Harvard Crimson on Friday (Feb. 13).
- Ryan Shostak and Charlie Gollob scored for the Bears for a 2-0 lead halfway through the game.
- After a Harvard goal late in the second period, Casey Severo forced overtime with an extra attacker goal with 58 seconds on the clock.
- In the shootout, Brian Nicholas and Ryan St. Louis scored and Tyler Shea made two saves for the extra point.
- Interim head coach Jason Smith takes over the bench for the rest of the 2025-26 season.
- Smith, in his seventh year at Brown, joined the Bruno staff ahead of the 2019-20 season.
- He has previously served as an assistant coach at Northeastern (2014-19), Holy Cross (2007-14), and Babson (2003-07), and Salem State (1999-2003).
- A 1998 Salem State graduate, Smith was a three-year member and two-year captain of the men's hockey team.
