Men's Hockey Skates to 2-2 Tie and Shootout Win Over Harvard
2/13/2026 10:52:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Tyler Shea matched a career-high with 46 saves and added two more in the shootout as the Brown Bears (4-19-2, 3-12-2 ECAC) skated to a 2-2 tie and shootout win over the Harvard Crimson (13-10-2, 10-6-1 ECAC) Friday night at Meehan Auditorium.
With the shootout victory, Brown picks up the extra ECAC league point.
"I thought it was a great hockey game; it was old-school with the final shots, 48-41. We had chances and I thought we played great in the first," the Class of 1975 Head Coach for Men's Hockey Brendan Whittet '94 said. "Harvard has skill, and they clawed their way back. I was happy, and the guys found the way to get the extra point against a very good Harvard team. I was proud; it's bittersweet with this weekend being my last weekend. I'm just trying to savor it. The crowd was great. I had a lot of my college friends fly in to be here.
"Again, I couldn't be more proud to have the opportunity to wear the uniform and to be able to be the head coach here for 17 years. The irony is crazy, my last game tomorrow is against Dartmouth, where I had a great experience as an assistant and lucky enough to work for my head coach here in Bob Gaudet. I want the guys to go out, play hard, and see where it takes us. I'm going to enjoy it."
Ryan Shostak opened the scoring with his second goal of the season 2:06 into the first period. Shostak found the loose puck in the slot and wired a shot over Harvard goaltender Ben Charette (39 saves) for the goal. Andrew King and Nick Traggio assisted on the goal.
Charlie Gollob doubled Brown's lead halfway through the second period with his fourth goal of the campaign. The sophomore collected a breakout pass from Ivan Zadvernyuk and wristed a shot past Charette on the rush for the goal. Ethan Mistry picked up the secondary assist on the goal.
Harvard drew within a goal late in the second period as Will Hughes finished a feed from Richard Gallant for his third goal of the season. Joe Miller added the second assist.
Harvard pressed offensively in the third period, and with Charette pulled for the extra attacker, Shea robbed Miller of a goal with 2:04 remaining. Shea dove across the crease to stop Miller's effort after making the initial save against Philip Tresca.
Casey Severo tied the game with 58 seconds remaining off of assists from Tresca and Mick Thompson to force overtime.
Thirty seconds into the overtime period, Brian Nicholas drew a tripping penalty on Tresca. However, the Crimson picked up four saves from Charette and a blocked shot to keep the Bears off the board.
In the shootout, Nicholas and Marek Hejduk traded goals in the first round. Ryan St. Louis beat Charette five-hole to open the second round and Shea stopped Thompson's effort. After Gollob's shootout effort hit the post, Shea secured the extra point with a save against Miller.
