Women's Hockey Routs Union with 7-3 Victory
1/30/2026 9:04:00 PM | Women's Ice Hockey
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Brown women's hockey (13-10-2, 9-6-2 ECAC) scored a season-high seven goals in a 7-3 rout of Union (9-16-3, 2-14-1 ECAC) on Friday night (Jan. 30) at M&T Bank Center.
Seven different Bears found the net on the night, the most Bears to score a goal in a game since eight Bears scored in a 10-0 win over Sacred Heart on Dec. 7, 2011.
"There was an urgency to get pucks and players to the net," said head coach Melanie Ruzzi. "When we adopted that mindset, our pace picked up and it didn't matter how it went in, just that we got goals on the board."
Monique Lyons, Margot Norehad, Jade Iginla and India McDadi all finished the night with a goal and an assist. Isabella Gratzl collected two assists on the night. Zoe Li, Olivia Fantino and Victoria Damiani each scored a goal. It was Damiani's first goal of the season.
Rory Edwards picked up the win in net for Brown with 28 saves. Edwards also picked up an assist on Brown's first goal.
Brown's offense did not start off strong as the Bears were held scoreless for the first period and Union took a 1-0 lead with a goal at 8:36 in the first period. A shorthanded goal by the Garnet Chargers at 2:55 in the second put the Bears in a 2-0 hole.
That began to change just 30 seconds later as Iginla took the puck coast-to-coast and beat Emily Evans (22 saves) for a power play goal to put the Bears on the board.
Three minutes later, Norehad found McDadi in the near circle. McDadi's shot deflected off the skate of the defender and past Union's goalie to tie the game.
After Union's third goal with just over seven minutes left in the period, Brown's offense exploded. Damiani tied up the game again, taking the puck down the slot and firing a wrister into the net.
Two minutes later, on the power play, Gratzl sent a beautiful pass from just in front of the Bears own goal, right to Lyons' stick at the opposite blue line behind the Union defense. Lyons then beat Evans to put the Bears up 4-3. Brown's fifth goal of the second again came on the power play as Fantino deflected a puck that was sent on net by Lyons.
Four minutes into the third it was Norehad's chance to get on the board after a pass from McDadi to make it 6-1. The Bears' final goal came from Li who was found in front of the Union net by Martina Accardi.
