HAMDEN, Conn. – Brown women's hockey (18-13-2) forced game three in the ECAC Quarterfinals with a dramatic 3-2 overtime win over Quinnipiac (25-8-3), in M&T Bank Arena on Saturday (Feb. 28).
Margot Norehad found the net twice, including the game winner. Jade Iginla added a goal, pushing her point streak to eight games.
Anya Zupkofska posted a career-high 49 saves as the Bears staved off 51 shots from the Bobcats.
"We made some adjustments yesterday, how we were defending, playing off the puck and I though the team did a good job and it made us a much more solid team today," said head coach Melanie Ruzzi. "We got a couple of goals in and then Margot scoring in overtime, coming off a power play is huge. Special teams did a good job, solid play up and down the lineup and heroics at the end."
Brown struck first with two minutes left in the first period. Jade Iginla picked up the puck in Brown's zone on the far boards and raced into the offensive zone before going top-shelf over Felicia Frank (21 saves) to put the Bears up 1-0.
Quinnipiac tied the game at 8:50 in the second with a goal by Kahlen Lamarche as the Bears left the forward wide open in front of the net.
With four minutes left in the second period, Brown took the lead as Norehad scored her third goal of the series. Ella Muralt found Norehad at center ice and the Brown forward beat the QuinnIpiac defense, leading to a 1-on-1 breakaway. Norehad went up top and found the net to make it 2-1.
Brown was a player down after a penalty seven minutes left in the third and Quinnipiac tied up the game with another goal from Lamarche.
The Bears killed off another penalty with less than a minute left in regulation and finished off the penalty in the first minute of overtime.
Three minutes later, Sam Broz entered Brown's offensive zone and found Norehad in the slot. The junior beat Frank to force a deciding game three.
