Field Hockey Set to Open 2025 Season at #14 UMass and #11 UConn This Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown field hockey team will open its 2025 season with a pair of road games at #14 UMass (2-0) on Friday and #11 UConn (1-1) on Sunday.
Scouting Brown
Brown returns 19 players from the 2024 squad that saw the program reach new heights. The Bears earned their first-ever Ivy League Tournament berth, their 43 goals last season were the third-most in a single season in program history and the most since they scored 50 in 2000.
Brown's four Ivy League victories last season were the most since they went 5-2 in 2005, the Bears' nine overall victories were the most since the 2014 campaign.
Lucy Adams, Mia Karine Myklebust, and Lexi Pellegrino were named to the NFHCA Collegiate Watchlist. As a team, Brown was picked third in the Ivy League preseason poll.
Brown will be seeking its first win against a ranked opponent since Sept. 4, 2022 when they earned a 3-2 overtime victory over No. 24 Miami (OH).
Scouting UMass (2-0)
UMass will welcome Brown with a perfect 2-0 mark to begin the 2025 season. The Minutewomen picked up two-straight shutout victories to open the season with a 2-0 win at Vermont (Aug. 29) and a 3-0 win at UMass Lowell (Aug. 31).
After a strong showing in the opening weekend of the season, Neva Eisenga and Myrte van Herwijen took home MAC weekly award honors.
Scouting UConn (1-1)
UConn will welcome Brown for its home opener, the Huskies began the season with a 4-3 win at New Hampshire (Aug. 29) and a 2-1 shootout loss against No. 9 Saint Joseph's (Aug. 30).
The Huskies received a number of Big East preseason honors as they were selected as the preseason favorite. Additionally, Sol Simone was tabbed as Preseason Midfielder of the Year. Simone was also named to the All-Big East preseason team with Natalie McKenna and Julia Bressier.
History
Brown is 0-7 all-time against UMass with the last match up coming in 2008. The Bears have a 2-20-1 overall mark against UConn, with the last match up coming last season as the Huskies defeated the Bears 4-0 at Goldberger Family Field.

Brown will begin a three-game home stand beginning with its home opener against Fairfield on Sunday. Sept. 14 at 12 p.m.
