"I thought it was a good performance, and a great result opening up Ivy play against Dartmouth with the 2-1 win," Assistant Coach Steven Tekesky said. "Mateo was able to get on the scorecard early in the first half, and in the second half we were able to find a second goal off a free kick. We created a lot of chances, but have to find a way to put more in the back of the net."
The Bears came out strong, getting on the board in just the eighth minute of play. First-year forward Mateo Pereyra found himself in the middle of the penalty arc upon receiving the ball from senior midfielder Mads Stistrup Petersen. Pereyra fired the ball from the arc, sending it past Dartmouth's goalkeeper Konstantinos Dellas, to take a 1-0 lead. Pereyra's goal marks the third time this season the Bears have scored first within the first ten minutes.
Brown continued to generate opportunities throughout the remainder of the first half, but were unable to capitalize on them. They out shot Dartmouth in the first half, 7-2.
Early in the second half the Big Green committed a foul, earning the Bears a free kick opportunity. Junior forward Lorenzo Amaral took the free kick, sending the ball into the box. A member of the Big Green headed the ball, sending it to the back of their net for an own goal. The Bears doubled their lead to 2-0.
In the 71st minute Dartmouth retaliated, making the score 2-1.
The Bears powered through the remaining minutes holding onto their lead until the end, earning their first conference win of the season.
