PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown women's soccer team has swept the Ivy League Weekly Awards for the second time this season. Junior midfielder Joy Okonye and senior defender Naya Cardoza have earned the honors as announced by the Ivy League on Monday afternoon.
Okonye was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals and recording an assist last week. Against Providence, Okonye's goal was the first of the game, with a strong individual effort that resulted in a top corner bar-down finish from just inside the box. Her assist was a masterful pass to Ayla Sahin for the third goal against the Friars. Against Yale, Okonye scored on two long-range shots, scoring in the top corner.
For the second consecutive week, Cardoza scored in all games played. In the second half of their 4-0 win over Providence, she headed in a corner kick to score the second goal of the game for the Bears. She was a part of a great defensive performance against the Friars, as they allowed just two shots on goal. In their 5-2 win over Yale, Cardoza spun on her defender inside the box and tucked the ball into the lower left corner. She has scored in four straight games, and leads the Ivy League in goals with six.
The Bears will look to continue their momentum as they travel to Columbia on Saturday, September 27, with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
