Providence, R.I. – The Brown men's water polo team got off to a strong start at the Bruno Invite, sweeping both matches of Day One with solid team play and standout individual performances.
In the opener, the Bears took care of business against Connecticut College with a convincing 17-12 victory. Roberto Serrano scored twice, making those goals his first of the season, while first-years Jackson Meleney and Jeremy Tachik netted their first career goals as a Bear. Goalkeepers Dimitrios Kratimenos, Kole Newman, and Ryan Miele all joined the Bears on the defensive side, scoring five goals altogether, while attacker Trey Rodgers subbed in for the goalkeepers, saving four goals overall.
The Bears carried that momentum into the second match against a competitive Pomona-Pitzer squad, emerging with a hard-fought 14-10 victory. With Jaxson Tierney, Dominik Balla and Griffin Tunney all scoring two goals, alongside Ilias Stothart scoring four, allowing the bears to get an early lead against the Sagehens. During the second half, Pomona-Pitzer tried to keep up with scoring, getting close in the final quarter, but thanks to Dimitrios Kratimenos back in goal with a total of 12 saves , the Bears got their second win at the end of day one.
With two wins under their belt, the Bears are off to a 2–0 start at the Bruno Invite and will look to continue their strong play on Day Two.
