Softball Falls In Regional Opener to No. 12 Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas. – Brown softball (33-16) dropped its Lubbock Regional opener against No. 12 Texas Tech (46-12) by a score of 6-0 at Rocky Johnson Field on Friday (May 16).
Brown finished with just two hits on the day but only struck out twice, regularly putting the ball in play against the Texas Tech pitching staff. Alexis Guevara (20-8) picked up the loss, allowing six runs on six hits and striking out two. Walks were a struggle for Guevara, who walked a season-high six batters. The six runs allowed were also a season-high for the senior. First year Edie Cobb threw a perfect bottom of the sixth for Brown.
The Bears got their first hit of the postseason as Elli Thompson reached on an infield single. A double play in the next at bat ended the inning for Brown.
Texas Tech put up two runs in the bottom of the first to get the scoring started with a sacrifice fly and a triple to bring home run number two.
Brown flashed the leather in the second inning as Amanda Deng robbed what could have been a double with a diving catch in right field. In the next at bat, Vanessa Alexander showed off with a sliding catch in foul territory near the wall.
The Red Raiders pushed its lead to 6-0 in the third with a three-run home run and a solo home run.
Jasmine Hsiao doubled to the wall in right center to start the top of the fourth but another double play ended Brown's scoring threat.
With Texas Tech threatening in the fourth, Alexander made another great play, picking up a ground ball behind second and diving to the base to beat the runner for the final out.
The Bears weren't able to get any more offense going the rest of the game, falling to the host to move into the losers bracket of the regional.

Brown will play the loser of the Mississippi State/Washington game on Saturday (May 17) in an elimination game that is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
