Softball Falls in Rain-Soaked, Extra-Inning Loss to Columbia

The Bears finished with a season-high 11 hits, with Jasmine Hsiao leading the way picking up three base knocks. Macy Borowski hit her second home run of the season and six different Bears drove in runs.
Brown began the scoring with a two-out single by Abby Bettencourt that scored Amanda Deng, who had led off the inning with a walk.
In the bottom of the second, Brown added to the lead beginning with a lead-off double by Lilly Burns. Burns moved to second after a sac bunt and, two batters later, scored on a single by Hsiao.
Cameron Zytkewicz Ray started the fourth with a single and another single by Hsiao put runners on second and third after the throw in from the outfield. Deng then singled right back up the middle to score both Zytkewicz Ray and Hsiao, putting the Bears up 4-0.
Borowski, who had been in cruise control through most of the game, put the first two runners on in the top of the sixth. Brown got out of the inning getting a fielder's choice, a pop up and a strikeout, keeping the lead at four.
As the rain began to come down in the seventh, Columbia staged a rally. The Lions picked up singles in the first two at bats before a strikeout. Another single loaded the bases before a double down the line in left made it 4-3. Two Brown errors in the next two at bats allowed the tying run to cross and a double put Columbia up 6-4 before the Bears finally got out of the inning.
Maggie Foxx led off the seventh with a single before the game was halted due to the weather. After a rain delay lasting 1:20, the teams finally came back on the field. Columbia got a strikeout in the next at bat before Borowski responded with a two-run home run to center to tie the game, sending the game into extra innings.
Columbia would get to Brown reliever Edie Cobb, scoring six runs in the top of the eighth through a steady drizzle.
In the bottom of the eighth, Brown loaded the bases with a walk by Maya Choksi, single by Hsiao and walk by Deng. Groundouts by Elli Thompson and Foxx both brought home runs but a final groundout ended the game.
