NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Brown softball (7-5) dropped both games at Belmont (16-7) at E.S. Rose Park on Sunday to close out the Bears' trip to the Music City. Brown's offense was held at bay as the Bruins shutout Brown in both contests.
Game 1: Belmont 8, Brown 0 (5 innings)
Brown could not get any offense going in game one against Belmont as the Bears failed to get a runner on base in the five-inning loss. Brown batters struck out 10 times in the game.
Belmont scored a run in the first and two in the second but blew the game open with four runs in the fourth inning. Brown's pitching gave up 11 walks on the day, a season high. Macy Borowski (3-2) was charged with the loss, throwing three innings, allowing five runs.
GAME 2: Belmont 1, Brown 0
Brown had chances but could not put a run across in a 1-0 loss to Belmont to close out the weekend.
Alexis Guevara (3-2) delivered another strong performance, throwing a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits with five strikeouts. Guevara gave up a single and double in the first inning before the only run of the game came across on a groundout. From there, Guevara allowed just four more base runners and kept the Bruins off the scoreboard.
Brown, who got hits from Amanda Deng, Laurel Moody, Guevara and Lily Berlinger had its first real scoring chance in the fifth when walks to Alyssa Villarde and Leah Carey put two runners on with two outs. Deng grounded out to short to end the threat.
The Bears picked up two out hits in both the sixth and seventh innings but could not do anything after.
UP NEXT
Brown will be back in action with doubleheaders at both Sacred Heart (March 15) and Holy Cross (March 16).
