THE FIRST PITCH
- Brown is coming off a 3-0 weekend as the Bears beat Boston University on a walk-off home run by Laurel Moody and sweeping a doubleheader against Merrimack.
- In the second game against Merrimack, Cameron Zytkewicz Ray hit her first grand slam of her career and the first grand slam by a Bear since 2016.
- The Bears are currently 6-2 on the year, which is the best start by a Brown team through eight games since the 2016 season when Brown also went 6-2. The Bears won their next game to start that season 7-2.
- This will be the second-straight season Brown has made a trip to the Volunteer State. Brown went to the University of Tennessee for a non-conference tournament a season ago.
- Lipscomb comes into the weekend with an 8-10 record on the season. The Bisons went 3-2 last weekend but dropped a 15-4 game to Notre Dame the last time they took the field.
- Alyssa Hastings leads the team with a .339 average, 19 hits, six doubles, 15 RBI and is tied with Brenna Sherman for the team lead with three home runs.
- Ryliegh Sapp leads the pitching staff with a 3.40 ERA and has 23 strikeouts in 22.2 innings. Laine Barefoot has logged the most innings (38.2) and leads the team with four wins.
- This will be the first time in program history that Brown has played Lipscomb.
- Belmont holds a 12-7 record and will play Robert Morris twice on Saturday before hosting the Bears. The Bruins are 3-1 at home this season.
- Four hitters are hitting over .300 this season for the Bruins. Nicole Hughes is tops on the squad with a .368 average. Rylee Spindler has a team-high 15 RBI.
- Mya Johnson holds an 0.95 ERA in 51.1 innings and has 85 strikeouts to lead the pitching staff. Johnson has a record of 6-1 in eight appearances with six complete games and four shutouts.
- The Bears and Bruins have played once before with Belmont earning a 3-0 win on March 8, 2014.
- Senior Laurel Moody is off to a strong start this season, hitting .348 through eight games with a team-high three home runs. Moody has already matched her home run total from a season ago and is two-shy of her career high she set in her freshman season.
- Moody is seven hits away from 100-career hits and is two home runs shy of tying for the fifth-most home runs in program history.
- With two home runs coming against Merrimack, both by Cameron Zytkewicz Ray, Brown now has six home runs on the season, one shy of last year's total and already halfway to the total in 2023.
- Alexis Guevara continues to dominate in the circle with 36 strikeouts through five appearances. It is the most strikeouts in a five-game stretch for Guevara in her career.
- Guevara started the season with back-to-back 10-strikeout performances, reaching double-figure Ks in back-to-back outings for the first time in her career and the third and fourth times overall.
- Guevara currently sits third all-time in Brown program history for strikeouts with 281 and is currently 91 strikeouts away from setting the program record.
- Freshman Amanda Deng leads the Bears with a .364 average and is tied for the team lead with both Moody and Leah Carey with eight hits. Deng has one triple and four RBI through her first eight games on College Hill.
- The Bears pitching staff has been anchored by a strong 1-2 punch of Alexis Guevara and Macy Borowski. Borowski is currently 3-0 on the season with a team-best 2.33 ERA and has 25 strikeouts in 21.0 innings.
- Guevara is just behind with a 2.52 ERA and her 36 strikeouts have come through 25.0 innings pitched.
- Behind these two pitchers, Brown is eighth in the nation with 8.40 strikeouts per seven innings.
- Individually, Guevara is 20th in the nation with 10.1 strikeouts per seven innings and Borowski sits at 57th (8.3).
