Butera Homers Twice as Baseball Falls in Series Finale at Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Freshman Christian Butera hit two more home runs in Sunday's series finale, but it was not enough as Brown baseball fell by a score of 13-3 at Columbia.

Butera's 2-for-4 day with two homers and two RBIs capped an insane weekend at the plate, where he went 5-for-11 with four home runs, five RBIs and five runs scored, with his only hit that didn't leave the yard coming in the form of an RBI double.

Elsewhere on Sunday, sophomore Andrew Hanlon added a double and run scored, and junior Mika Petersen had a single to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.

The Lions jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, using a two-run homer and two-run double as part of a four-hit inning.

The Bears got one run right back in the second inning on Butera's first homer of the afternoon, crushing a no-doubt line drive out to left field on a 2-1 fastball to make it 4-1.

Columbia added a run in the fourth following a leadoff double, then a successful double steal of second and home to make it 5-1.

Hanlon led off the fifth with a double to center field and later came in to score on a wild pitch to cut it to 5-2.

The Lions added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of walks, and a two-out, two-run double to push it to 7-2.

Butera stepped up for Brown once more in the sixth, hammering a long fly ball to straightaway center field for his second home run of the game to pull the Bears within four.

Columbia pulled away with six runs in the bottom of the sixth, the sixth time this weekend that they scored at least four runs in an inning.

Brown will return to Providence to host Stonehill in its home opener on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. on ESPN+
