Baseball Rallies Late and Wins Walk-off over Stonehill in Home Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Down four runs entering the eighth inning, the Brown baseball team rallied to tie the game and win it on a walk-off home run by Gunner Boree in the bottom of the 10th inning to beat Stonehill 7-4 in Tuesday's home opener at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.

Boree's game-winning knock was his third home run overall and second game winning homer of 2025. He ended the day going 2-for-4 with two walks, three RBIs and two runs scored. Christian Butera added three hits and two RBIs, sparking the comeback with a two-run double in the eighth inning. Four Brown pitchers – Brenden Kline, Stiles Begnaud, Peter Dubie and Santhosh Gottam – all combined to hold Stonehill to one hit and no runs over the final five innings.

Stonehill took a 2-0 lead right out of the gate in the top of the first on two hits, two walks and a wild pitch. They doubled the lead in the fifth inning with the help of a leadoff single and a two-out, two run homer to deep left center field for the 4-0 lead midway through the game.

The Bears were held to just two hits through the first six innings, but scored four times, all with two outs, to tie the score in the eighth. Butera got the first big hit of the game with a two-run double to plate Boree and DJ Dillehay to cut the deficit in half. After a pitching change, Mark Henshon drilled a double down the left field line to plate Butera to make it 4-3. Three batters later, Brown tied it on a ground ball that was boxed around, the second Stonehill error of the inning.

Brown nearly won it in the bottom of the ninth, putting runners on the corners with two outs, but Henshon's sharp line drive went straight at the right fielder for the final out.

Stonehill used a leadoff double and an intentional walk to put runners on the corners with one out in the 10th before Gottam induced a huge grounder to second base for an inning-ending double play to keep the game tied.

Conor Cooke doubled leading off the 10th for Brown and Nathan Brasher added a walk with two outs to set the table for Boree, who drilled a 3-2 pitch out deep to left-center field for the walk-off blast.
