Brown Drops Series Opener at Bryant

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Brown baseball team dropped the first of a three-game series on Saturday afternoon in a 3-1 loss to the Bryant Bulldogs.

Brown starter Santhosh Gottam went five innings allowing one earned run, four hits, one walk, while striking out five batters in a no-decision.

Christian Keel pitched in relief for the Bears, allowing the go-ahead two run double in the bottom of the seventh inning.

At the plate, the Bears lone run of the game came when Christian Butera led off the top of fifth inning with a double, advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt, and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

The Bears tallied six hits on the day, with Butera, DJ Dillehay, and Mika Petersen all recording doubles. Dillehay and Nathan Brasher were the only two Bears to record multiple hits, with both tallying two.

Brown will conclude its series at Bryant with a double header on Sunday, Mar. 15. Game one will begin at 11:00 a.m.
