Gymnastics Sets Two Season-Highs at UNH

DURHAM, N.H. – The Brown gymnastics team set season-highs on two events on Sunday at the Stick It For The Cure Tri-Meet at the University of New Hampshire. Overall, the Bears finished with 192.100 points to take third place, with UNH taking the team title with 194.700 and Yale following with 194.325.
Brown put up season bests on both bars and floor with senior Maya Davis taking first place on bars, junior Liza Marcus tying for second on bars, freshman Avery Walters tying for third on beam, and senior Julia Bedell tying for third on vault and tying for second on floor.
Brown started off on beam by hitting on their first four routines, led by Walters (9.750) and junior Jessica Lin (9.700), who finished tied for third and tied for sixth, respectively. Sophomore Lindsay Van Eyk followed with a 9.650 and Marcus posted a 9.600. The Bears combined to total 47.825 on the event.
Brown followed up on floor with a strong season-high score of 48.975 to jump from third to first place through the first two rotations with an overall mark of 96.800. All of Brown's five counted scores were 9.725 or higher with Bedell scoring the Bears first 9.900 of the season on any event to finish in a four-way tie for second place. Davis followed in a tie for sixth place with a season-best 9.850, followed by a 9.775 from Marcus, and a pair of 9.725 from Sophia Dewar and Walters.
Next up on bars, Brown followed with another season-high of 47.975 on vault, led by Bedell at 9.750 in a tie for third place. Dewar added a 9.625 and freshman Gabby Mautner scored a career-high 9.600. Brown carried a team score of 144.775 into the final rotation.
The Bears rounded out the meet with a 47.325 on bars. Davis led the way in first place overall at 9.800, a new season high. Marcus tied for second overall at 9.775 to tie her career high. Freshman Daisy Fallon set a new career-high in fifth place with 9.725 points.
Brown, Yale and New Hampshire will face off once again next weekend, with the addition of Towson, at a quad meet at Yale next Sunday, February 16 at 1 p.m.
