Softball to Host Boston University and Merrimack For Weekend Games

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball will host three games this weekend as the Bears will take on Boston University and Merrimack.
Brown and Boston University will face off against each other on Friday (Feb. 28) with first pitch set for 3 p.m. Brown and Merrimack will play a doubleheader on Saturday (March 1) with first pitch of game one set for 11 a.m.
There will be no stream for either day but live stats for both games can be found here.

THE FIRST PITCH
- Brown returns for its home opener after going 3-2 over its first weekend of play at the Winthrop Garnet and Gold Tournament. Brown earned two wins over Youngstown State and one against Winthrop.
- The Bears started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2010 with wins over Youngstown State and Winthrop. In the first win of the season, Brown beat Youngstown State 13-2. It was the most runs for Brown since scoring 15 runs at Yale on April 3, 2022.
- Brown scored seven runs in the seventh inning against Youngstown State, marking the most runs scored by Brown since plating 10 runs in the fourth inning against Holy Cross on March 22, 2022.
- Boston University is 8-6 on the season but has lost its last four games, including two losses to #24/21 South Carolina.
- Brooke Deppiesse and Megan Coyle lead the Terriers with 11 hits. Kylie Doherty has two home runs and 12 RBI.
- Kasey Ricard holds a 1.60 ERA with a 4-4 record. Dankia Nell has a team-high 36 strikeouts in just 36.2 innings pitched.
- Brown is 13-18-1 all-time against Boston University, but the Bears have dropped the last three contests against the Terriers.
- The last meeting was a 6-0 home loss for Brown. Brown's last win was also the last home win for the Bears, coming back in 2005 with a 6-2 win.
- Merrimack is 0-3 on the season and has scored just one run in the three games this year.
- Four Warriors are tied for the team lead with four hits and McKayla Kortes has the lone RBI on the season for Merrimack.
- Cecelia Imbimbo has thrown the most innings this season for Merrimack (7.0) and have five strikeouts but has an 0-2 record.
- Brown is 2-3 against Merrimack all-time with all five meetings coming in the last two seasons. Brown won one of three games in a weekend series against Merrimack last season.
- Freshman Amanda Deng is off to a hot start for the Bears, leading Brown with a .400 average after collected six hits in the five games last weekend. Deng also scored two runs and drove in two runs, while picking up a stolen base.
- Laurel Moody finished her first weekend of the season with four hits and was tied for the team lead with five RBI. Moody had two home runs against Winthrop after having just three home runs all of last season.
- Alexis Guevara moved into third-place all-time in Brown program history with 268 career strikeouts. Guevara started the season with 23 strikeouts in 14.0 innings including 10 strikeouts in games against both Youngstown State and St. John's. It was the third and fourth times Guevara had 10+ strikeouts in a game and the first time doing so in back-to-back games in her career.
