
Softball Hosts Penn to Close Regular Season with Tournament Spot on the Line

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball's series against Penn has been adjusted due to forecasted weather.
The series will begin on Friday (May 1) with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Brown and Penn will then play a single game on Saturday (May 2) with the scheduled start time set for 12:30 p.m.
All three games of the series will be streamed on ESPN+.
Saturday's game will still be Brown's Senior Day with the team honoring seniors Lily Berlinger, Annie Finch, Jasmine Hsiao and Cameron Zytkewicz Ray.
ABOUT THE BEARS
Brown is facing off against Penn in the final series of the season with the winner of the three-game series earning a spot in the Ivy League Tournament.
The Bears are 17-21 on the season and 8-9 in Ivy League play. Brown is coming off a weekend that saw the Bears going 2-1 at Cornell, sweeping a doubleheader on Sunday before dropping the series finale on Monday.
During the series with Cornell, two Bears hit milestones with Jasmine Hsiao collecting her 100th-career run scored and Macy Borowski throwing her 250th-career strikeout. Borowski also moved into second-place for single season strikeouts at Brown with 128.
Hsiao has been climbing the career charts at Brown this season. The senior now sits in the top-five in career records in multiple categories and just outside the top five a multiple others.
Hsiao's numbers
Career doubles – 40 – 2nd all-time
Career walks – 71 – 3rd all-time
Career runs scored -100 – 3rd all-time
Career at bats – 485 – 4th all-time
Senior Cameron Zytkewicz Ray is having one of her best seasons in her last campaign on College Hill. Zytkewicz Ray leads Brown with a .346 batting average, 37 hits, eight doubles and is tied for the team lead with two triples. All of those numbers are career-highs for the San Marcos, Calif., native.
Borowksi has gotten it done for Brown in both the circle and at the plate. The junior leads the Ivy League in innings pitched (131.2) and strikeouts (128), while sitting third in wins (10) and opposing batting average (.254) and fifth in earned run average (3.35).
At the plate, Borowski is second on the team with a .321 batting average and six doubles. She also has three home runs and 16 runs driven in on the year.
Elli Thompson has pushed her average to .300 on the season and boasts a team-high 20 RBI, while tying for the team lead with four home runs.
Both Thompson and Zytkewicz Ray are riding nine-game hitting streaks coming into the weekend. Thompson also has the highest current reached base streak at 10 games, with Zytkewicz Ray and Abby Bettencourt both at nine.
SCOUTING PENN
Penn is 17-24 overall and 8-10 in Ivy League play. The Quakers are coming off a weekend going 1-2 against Columbia.
Senior Jade Montgomery was named Ivy League Player of the Week after her performance against the Lions. Montgomery went 8-for-11 with four doubles, a home run and two RBI. She is currently third on the team with a .395 batting average.
Delaney Smith leads the team, hitting .465 with 59 hits. She has driven in a team-high 42 runs and is second on the team with nine home runs.
Gigi Ganje has a team-high 16 home runs and has driven in 37, while averaging .411 on the year.
In the circle, Kelly Zybura leads Penn with a 4.97 ERA, six wins, 101.1 innings pitched and 66 strikeouts.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Brown is 51-37 all-time against Penn and took all three games in Philadelphia last season. Penn won the last series in Providence (2024), winning the second and third game of the series.
