PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Brown women's tennis team (2-0) defeated the Bryant Bulldogs (0-2) 6-1 on Saturday morning at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
"A solid performance today. Our players were clear on their strategy and we were able to out compete a talented Bryant team," Broadbent Family Women's Tennis Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said.
The Bears had a strong start to the match, securing the doubles point after posting wins at the first and third line. The pairing of Addison Ahlstrom and Lindsey Hofflander defeated Bryant's Caitlyn Munson and Natalia Vela, 6-3. Anne Yang and Bella Hu posted a 6-1 win over the Bulldogs' Maria Jose Hernandez Diaz and Lisa Marie Dugec.
"Annie and Bella set the tone in doubles with energy and good execution. Lindsey and Addie were able to overcome a slow start to play effective doubles and give us a 1-0 lead," said Schmidhauser.
Brown powered through singles, posting wins at five out of the six lines. Hofflander competed at the first line, defeating Vela in three sets (6-7(1), 6-4, 6-0). Hannah Shen got the job done in two sets against Munson (6-1, 6-1). Yang won fourth singles in two sets over Hernandez Diaz 6-1, 6-0. First-years Bella Hu and Sari Woo posted wins in two sets over Bryant's Aurora Pedwell and Pino respectively.
"In singles, Hannah and Annie did a great job taking care of their courts with flawless execution of their gameplan. Lindsey battled hard at line one singles, overcoming a set and 2-4 deficit. She steadied herself, pulled out the second set, and played a very gritty and consistent third set. Sari Woo, in her first match for the Bears, played very solidly and made her opponent extremely uncomfortable with her relentless consistency and speed," Schmidhauser said.
