Women's Tennis Cruises Past URI

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The 49th-ranked Brown women's tennis team (8-3) swept URI (4-3) on Saturday, 7-0, at the Pizzitola Sports Center Tennis Courts.
"I thought we competed well today across the board," Broadbent Family Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said. "Even when our opponents raised their level and challenged us, we were able to respond in kind and match their improved play with increased focus, intensity, and strategic play."
Dani Ben-Abraham and Hannah Shen secured a first-line tiebreaker 7(7)-6(4) over Nikki Fernando and Kajsa Helgesen in doubles play. On the second line, Abigail Lee and Chloe Qin achieved a 6-2 victory against Grace Darcy and Anastasia Pettersson. To complete the doubles sweep, Anne Yang and Ali Maguy clinched the third line, 6-2, over Ava Grnja and Sophie Herrman.
Turning to singles, the Bears dominated all matches en route to the team win. At the first line, Ali Maguy powered past Nikki Fernando 6-3, 6-1, with Dani Ben-Abraham defeating Sophie Herrman 6-0, 6-1 at the second line. Anne Yang rebounded at the third line against Grace Darcy, dropping the first set 3-6, then rallying to win the second 6-4 and closing with a 10-1 victory in the third. Sari Woo outlasted Anastasia Pettersson at the fourth line, ultimately clinching the win 6-4, 6-3. At the fifth line, Francesca Saroli battled for a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Kajsa Helgesen, and Chloe Qin finished the singles sweep, fending off Stephanie Hylton 6-3, 6-3.
