Lucie Schmidhauser was promoted to head women's tennis coach on Aug. 24, 2018 after serving as the program's assistant coach in 2017-18.
Under Schmidhauser's leadership, Lindsey Hofflander concluded the 2024-25 season and her time at Brown with the second-most career doubles wins in program history. The Bears opened conference play with an upset over nationally ranked No. 59 Yale. Newcomers Bella Hu and Ali Maguy recruited by Schmidhauser closed out their first season with an impressive 15 and 14 singles wins respectively.
Under Schmidhauser's coaching, three Bears earned All-Ivy Honors to close out the 2023-24 season. The doubles pairing of Phoebe Peus and Lindsey Hofflander were named Second Team All-Ivy, with Peus also earning First Team recognition in singles. The Bears closed out the season with 10 wins.
At the close of the 2022-23 season, Schmidhauser was named the Ivy League Coach of the Year for the first time in her career, leading Brown to its third-ever ECAC Championship, an 18-7 record and a second-place finish in the Ivy league standings at 6-1. 18 wins only trails the 1997 and 2009 teams, who both posted 19 victories, while Brown's 6-1 Ivy League record is the third-best in program history and the second-place conference finish is the highest mark since 1997.
During the 2021-22 season, Britany Lau was named a First Team All-Ivy selection in both singles and doubles, while Addison Ahlstrom joined Lau as a First Team Doubles honoree.
In 2017-18, the Bears boasted an Ivy League best six All-Ivy selections while finishing tied for third in the conference.
Prior to her time at College Hill, Schmidhauser worked at the Austin Tennis Academy, where she was a founding member and long-time coach in charge of the daily curriculum and developmental plans for 90 members. Concurrently, she was a Pilates instructor, helping integrate the training into the Academy’s fitness program.
Before the Austin Tennis Academy, Schmidhauser was the Director of Women’s Tennis at St. Stephen’s Tennis Academy, a nationally renowned tennis program that produced several Division I student-athletes.
Schmidhauser’s coaching career began at her alma mater Texas in 1998 as an assistant coach. She helped guide the team to two Big 12 Conference Championships and Top-10 NCAA finishes.
Collegiately, a NCAA National Champion and two-time All-American with the Longhorns, Schmidhauser was ranked No. 1 in the NCAA in singles for most of 1993-94 season, winning Indoor Nationals and was a finalist at Claycourt Nationals. In 1995, Schmidhauser helped lead Texas to a NCAA Team Championship after reaching the Final Four in 1994.
