PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The 56th-ranked Brown women's tennis team (11-3) takes down the Stony Brook Seawolves (4-8), 7-0, in a win before a three-match road trip.
Dani Ben-Abraham and Hannah Shen lost their first-line match to Mia Palladino and Elena Lobo-Corral, 6-3. On the second line, Ali Maguy and Anne Yang responded with a 6-3 win over Paisha Douglas and Kristi Boro. To secure the doubles point, Sari Woo and Anne Moody edged out Laura Ozola and Mila Charles, 7-5, at the third line.
In singles, the Bears dominated each match. At line one, Hannah Shen lost the first set 3-6 but rebounded to win the next two against Elena Lobo-Corral, 7(7)-6(2) and 10-7. Dani Ben-Abraham won on the second line against Mia Palladino, 6-1, 6-1. Ali Maguy controlled the third line, defeating Paisha Douglas 6-1, 7(7)-6(3). Abigail Lee secured the fourth line over Sanjana Devineni, 6-0, 6-1. Sari Woo earned her 10th spring victory at the fifth line, 6-1, 6-4, against Cornelia Bruu-Syversen. Chloe Qin closed the singles sweep, overcoming Laura Ozola 7-5, 6-3.
"Doubles play was extremely competitive in today's match. Stony Brook played great doubles at line one, and we couldn't execute consistently to turn the match around. Ali and Annie played very aggressively, closing their set with some great net play. Sari and Anne's opponents kept fighting, but our players stayed calm and collected to get the win, and the doubles point for our team. In singles, we competed well at all lines. Abbey overwhelmed her opponent with a precise all-court game, and Dani was relentless with her attacking game, not giving her opponent any time to set up for her shots. The rest of the singles players did a great job outcompeting their opponents. A good day for the Bears as we start preparing for Ivy League play," Broadbent Family Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said.
The Bears travel down to Tampa, Fla., for a match against the University of South Florida on Mar. 23rd at 5 p.m.
