Women’s Basketball Edged by Lehigh, 54-58

BETHLEHEM, Penn. - The Brown women's basketball team (5-3) narrowly fell to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (3-5) 54-58 inside of Stabler Arena on Sunday afternoon, snapping its five-game winning streak.
Grace Arnolie and Alyssa Moreland led the Bears in scoring for the fifth consecutive game this season, posting 12 and 11 points respectively. Arnolie has scored in double-figures in all five of her appearances this season, and is averaging 15.0 points per game. Moreland has closed out seven games this season in double figures, including the last six. She is averaging 14.6 points per game.
Sophomore forward Aima Ofunrein posted a game-high seven rebounds for the afternoon.
Both teams traded baskets in the first quarter as competition remained tight through the opening 10 minutes. The Mountain Hawks were able to pull away with a minute and a half left in the first quarter, with a layup from Lily Fandre. Ofunrein was able to counter with a layup, but was unable to push Brown past Lehigh.
The second quarter remained the lowest-scoring for the Bears, with the Mountain Hawks holding them to just eight points. Brown trailed Lehigh by just five points heading into the break, with a score of 30-25.
Brown opened up the third quarter on an 8-0 run, and netted three triples in the first portion of the quarter. For the third time this season, Brown held its opponent to less than 10 points in a quarter which was previously done against Maine and Bucknell. The Bears held the Mountain Hawks to nine points coming out of the break, while it had its highest-scoring quarter with 19 points. Brown held a three point advantage over the Mountain Hawks heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
Competition remained tight throughout the final quarter, with the score staying close. The score was knotted at 54 with just below two minutes remaining, but the Mountain Hawks pulled away when it drained four free-throws. The Bears ran into foul trouble in the latter half of the quarter, allowing Lehigh to score nine of its 19 points from the free-throw line.

The Bears will travel to North Easton, Mass. to take on Stonehill on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside of Merkert Gymnasium.
