
Four Bears Post Double-Figures as Women’s Basketball Defeats Merrimack 70-60

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The Brown women's basketball team (7-4) took down the Merrimack Warriors (3-6) 70-60 on Tuesday night inside of Lawler Arena, with four Bears closing out in double-figures.
Senior forward Beth Nelson set new career-highs against the Warriors, netting 15 points, five field goals, and four three-pointers made. Nelson also tied her career-high with three blocks.
Senior forward Alyssa Moreland posted a double-double for the fourth time this season, and the ninth time in her career. She closed out the contest with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Moreland has now ended eight games this season in double-figures in points, and seven in rebounds.
Senior guard Grace Arnolie extended her double-figure streak to all eight contests that she has competed in this season. She finished the night with 13 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. Arnolie also shot 55% from the field.
Junior guard Olivia Young also had a notable stat line with 12 points, four rebounds, four field goals made, three triples and a block and steal.
Nelson got the Bears on the board first, draining a three-pointer 30 seconds into the contest. Nelson's triple marked the start of Brown's minute-long 6-0 run, which was cut short by Merrimack's Oralye Kiefer. The Warriors went on to net 19 points, while the Bears tacked on 18 in the opening ten minutes.
After being outscored by just one point in the first quarter, Brown went on to outscore Merrimack for the remaining three.
Brown opened up the second quarter similarly to the first, with an 8-0 run. Nelson drained another three to pull away from Merrimack 29-24. The Warriors knotted the score at 30 with two and a half minutes remaining before the break. The Bears scored four more times in the quarter, which proved to be just enough to hold the lead heading into the break. Brown led 37-36 at the half.
The Bears came out of the break energized, this time going on a 12-0 run. Moreland's layup put Brown at a 13-point advantage. Brown scored eight more points in the bottom of the third, outscoring Merrimack 20-13 in the quarter. Brown closed out strong, netting 13 points to Merrimack's 11 in the fourth quarter for a 70-60 win over the Warriors.
