NORTH EASTON, Mass. - The Brown women's basketball team (6-3) defeated the Stonehill Skyhawks (3-4) 74-46 inside of Merkert Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Bears remain undefeated against the Skyhawks since its transition to Division I.
First-year forward Isabella Wesley set multiple career-highs at Stonehill. She grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, posted three steals, assisted on two baskets, and blocked one shot.
Senior guard Grace Arnolie led the Bears in scoring with a season-high 27 points against the Skyhawks, extending her double-figure streak to six-straight contests. Arnolie also shot 10-18 from the field, and 5-7 from beyond the arc.
Sophomore guard Monét Witherspoon also set new season-highs with five rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
All 13 members of Brown's active roster took the court tonight, with 12 of the 13 posting at least one point.
Stonehill got on the board first with a jumper from Julia Webster, just over a minute into the contest. The Skyhawks led for the first few minutes of the opening quarter, but that would prove to be the only time out of the full 40 minutes. The Bears went on to outscore the Skyhawks 19-15 in the first. At the end of one, Arnolie was already in double-figures with 14 points.
The second quarter would prove to be the lowest scoring for the Bears (13 pts.), but it still almost tripled Stonehill's five points. For the fifth time this season, Brown held its opponent to less than 10 points in a quarter. The Bears held a 12-point advantage heading into the break (32-20).
The third quarter consisted of many traded-off baskets between both teams. Even with putting up 15 points in the quarter, Stonehill faced a 15-point gap heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
Brown pulled apart even further, sealing Stonehill's fate with 24 points in the final quarter.
The Bears earned its sixth win of the season, and evened their road record to 3-3 on Wednesday night.
