Men's Hockey Drops Non-Conference Game at No. 11 Northeastern
11/29/2025 7:29:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
BOSTON, Mass. – The Brown Bears (3-7-0, 2-4-0 ECAC) were unable to overcome an early deficit and dropped a 4-1 decision to the 11th-ranked Northeastern Huskies (9-4-0, 4-3-0 HEA) Saturday evening at Matthews Arena.
We have to be a little more consistent – player to player, line to line. I thought we cheated a little bit on the offensive side," the Class of 1975 Head Coach for Men's Hockey Brendan Whittet '94 said. "We literally lost the game on a 30-second shift in the first period where we turned pucks over, our structure was not good defensively, we didn't block shots, we lost battles, and it's 2-0. It's hard to play catch-up all the time.
"We have to be better, and that's everybody, including the staff. We have to find a way, though, when we get away from my expectations of what I want in a hockey player and team – being selfless, hard-working individuals – we aren't going to be very successful.
"We need to get back to basics and understand what it takes to win at this level, especially against a team like that. They have some high-end ability; they're the number 11 team in the nation for a reason. We have to get back to work this week and understand the consistency that we need in order to be successful."
The Huskies opened the scoring 4:10 into the opening period as Amine Hajibi collected a loose puck in the slot and wired a shot past Fred Halyk (28 saves) for his third goal of the season.
Northeastern struck again 37 seconds later as Joe Connor finished a rebound from Tyler Fukakusa in the slot for a 2-0 lead.
The Huskies pushed the lead to 3-0 as Dylan Hryckowian tallied his eighth goal of the season 4:06 into the middle period. Hajibi and Jacob Mathieu picked up the assists on the goal.
Matt Desiderio cut into the Husky lead with his second goal of the season with 1:50 remaining in the second period. Desiderio jumped into the Brown rush and collected a pass from Ben Poitras in the slot and fired a shot past Quentin Sigurdson (27 saves). Ivan Zadvernyuk added the secondary assist on the goal.
The Bears pressed offensively in the third period looking for a pair of goals to tie the game, but the Huskies found the empty net with 1:20 remaining to extend the lead to 4-1.
