WORCESTER, Mass. - The Brown women's basketball team (0-2) dropped a close contest 64-65 at Holy Cross (2-1) on Wednesday night.
Holy Cross' Meg Cahalan opened the game on a 5-0 run, with a pair of made free throws and a three-pointer. First-year guard Charlotte Adams-Lopez quickly put a stop to it after draining three-straight shots for her own 8-0 run.
Both teams tied up the score twice more, before the Bears started to pull away from the Crusaders. The Bears held a five-point advantage (19-14) after 10 minutes. Five different Bears combined for Brown's 19 points.
Brown went on to net 12 points in the second quarter, with more than half of those points coming from new Bears (Adams-Lopez, Isabella Wesley, and Monét Witherspoon). The Bears held on to a one point edge over the Crusaders at the break (31-30).
In the third quarter Holy Cross grabbed two layups ahead of the timeout on the floor, distancing themselves from the Bears by four points. Brown responded with an 8-0 run to close out the quarter, 46-43.
With around two minutes left in regulation, the Crusaders were able to knot the score up one final time at 61. From that point on, Brown made a free throw and layup capping off their scoring at 64 points. Holy Cross put up a layup before calling a timeout, which resulted in Brown also calling a timeout right after. The Bears missed a scoring opportunity in the final moments, which the Crusaders' Simone Foreman was able to capitalize on, pushing them past Brown.
Three players finished out the game in double figures: Adams-Lopez, Witherspoon, and Aima Ofunrein.
Brown finished out the contest shooting 40.7% from the field, and with 21 points from the bench. The score tied a total of nine times against Holy Cross, while the lead changed 12 times.
