Women’s Basketball Tops Cornell 64-48 for Fifth-Straight Win, Third Ivy

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Brown women's basketball team (11-4, 3-0 Ivy) defeated the Cornell Big Red (7-9, 2-1 Ivy) 64-48 on Saturday afternoon, earning their fifth-straight win. The Bears improve to an undefeated 3-0 in Ivy League play.
Senior guard Grace Arnolie led the way for the Bears, netting a season-high 27 points against the Big Red. Following her standout performance, Arnolie now enters the top-10 in career points in program history. Arnolie also set new season-highs with 10 field goals made and seven three-pointers made. Her seven triples place her tied for third in three-point field goals in an individual game in program history.
She shot 10-20 from the floor, and 7-13 from beyond the arc.
Senior forward Alyssa Moreland posted 14 points and 10 rebounds, earning her sixth double-double of the season and 11th of her career. Moreland also shot 6-9 from the field, and 2-3 from the free-throw line.
Senior forward Ada Anamekwe made her way to the starting lineup for the second-straight contest. Anamekwe added seven points, four rebounds, three assists, and two blocks and steals.
The Big Red led for the first four minutes of the contest, upping Brown 6-5 at the first quarter media timeout. Arnolie knocked down a triple, giving the Bears the go ahead. Brown tacked on six more points, and ended the quarter on a 12-3 run.
Cornell opened up the second quarter with three straight baskets, knotting the score up at 14. The Bears retaliated with three triples from Arnolie and Adams-Lopez, pulling away from the Big Red. Brown held an eight-point advantage over Cornell (31-23) at the break.
The Bears came out of the break strong, going on an 8-0 run to start the third quarter. Brown went on another brief 6-0 run, before being cut short by Cornell's Rachel Kaus. The Bears' defense continued to pressure the Big Red, holding them to single digits (8 pts.) for the second quarter of the contest (9 pts. in Q1).
The Big Red outscored Brown by a pair of points in the final quarter. Cornell netted 17 points, with 12 of them coming from the free-throw line. Brown grabbed 15 points in the final quarter, keeping the game out of reach for Cornell.
Brown's 3-0 start in Ivy play is the program's best since the Bears started 4-0 in the 2002-03 season.
