Women’s Basketball Falls 52-68 at Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Brown women's basketball team (11-5, 3-1 Ivy) fell to the Columbia Lions (12-5, 3-1 Ivy) 52-68 on Monday afternoon inside of Levien Gymnasium, marking the Bears' first conference loss of the season.
Senior guard Grace Arnolie led the Bears in scoring, netting 21 points in the Monday matinee. Arnolie's 21 points marks her fourth consecutive 20+ point game of the season. She now ranks ninth in career scoring in program history. Arnolie closed out the contest shooting 50% from the floor, 63% from beyond the arc, and 100% from the free-throw line.
Senior forward Alyssa Moreland posted her eighth double-double of the season, and 12th of her career with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Moreland was the second-highest scorer in Brown's lineup this afternoon.
Columbia opened up the game with a 13-0 run that was put to an end by a free-throw from Moreland. Moreland posted four-straight baskets before senior forward Ada Anamekwe chipped in with four free-throws to end the first quarter.
Four Bears combined for 14 points in the second quarter, outscoring the Lions 14-10. Brown trailed by 10 points heading into the break.
A three-pointer from Arnolie around the three minute mark of the third quarter brought the Bears within eight points of the Lions at 30-38. Scoring bounced back and forth for the remainder of the quarter, with the Bears trying to close in on the Lions.
Arnolie opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer, setting the tone for the Bears in their final 10 minutes of play. Back-to-back three-pointers from Arnolie, paired with baskets from Anamekwe and Moreland left Brown with just four points separating them and Columbia. Following two free-throws from senior forward Beth Nelson, the Lions went on an 11-0 run to close out the contest. First-year Isabella Wesley netted the final basket of the game, putting the Bears at 52 points for the afternoon.

The Bears will return home to host No. 22 Princeton on Saturday, Jan. 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside of the Pizzitola Sports Center. Brown remains undefeated at home this season, with a 5-0 clean sheet.
