Women’s Soccer Falls to Princeton on Senior Day, will Rematch Tigers in Ivy League Tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Claire Silverman netted her first career goal in Brown University's (9-3-4, 3-2-2 Ivy) 2-1 setback to Princeton University (7-5-3, 5-2-0 Ivy) on Saturday at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Despite the result, Brown clinched its third consecutive appearance in the Ivy League Tournament (began in 2023), and the Bears will rematch host Princeton on Thursday, Nov. 6.
"It was a tough result to swallow today," Messing Family Head Coach for Brown Varsity Women's Soccer Kia McNeill said. "I really feel for the team because we didn't get the result we wanted, even though the effort was there. I thought we responded well after going down 1-0, and getting the equalizer before halftime showed our character. We came out strong to start the second half and were on the front foot, but Princeton scored against the run of play, and that took some of the wind out of our sails. Even so, we kept pushing and created chances late, but the ball just didn't bounce our way today. The good news is that some other results fell our way, so we are in the tournament and will be facing Princeton again next week. It'll be good for us to regroup and go at it again against them.
Key Scoring Summary:
- 29:12 (PRINCETON 1-0): Princeton struck first when forward Alexandra Barry scored off an assist from Maddie Recupero.
- 37:11 (Tied 1-1): Brown quickly responded, with Silverman tying the game before halftime, assisted by Naya Cardoza and Audrey Lam.
- 56:05 (PRINCETON 2-1): Alexandra Barry netted the game-winner and her second goal of the day early in the second half, with assists credited to Dylan Jovanovic and Kelsee Wozniak.
Game Notes:
- With the win, Princeton finished the Ivy League season with a 5-2-0 record.
- Brown held an advantage in shots (8-4) and shots on goal (3-2).
- Addison Etter fell to 1-1-0, 1-1-0 Ivy in goal.
- Nadja Meite's defensive stop around the 27-minute marker ended Princeton's attack.
- Brown's goal sequence began with Brooke Birtwistle's corner attempt, which led to an inside pass from Lam, and Cardoza's header was followed by Silverman's first career goal.
- The Bears threatened twice more, with Cardoza's header (83:31) and Ayla Sahin's shot attempt just missing to preserve the Princeton lead.
